I know it probably won’t happen, but imagine if Villarreal won the Champions League, it wouldn’t be congratulations to the small team making a breakthrough. It would be, this is the reason why we need a closed shop so this won’t happen again.

One would think that such a win would be great for the game overall.....sends a message

The "big" teams primarily I think due to American/foreign ownership got shook when Leicester won the league and would be shook for Villareal to do similar.

There's too much money in the game unfortunately, and sporting meritocracy has gone out of the window over commercial business endeavours
 
I just hate that it had gotten this way. You saw the “outrage” when Atalanta got into the Champions League over Roma. Everyone felt that they had no right being in the Champions League over Roma because they have no history in the event.
