Like I said, when you leave your feet, you're at the mercy of the shooter as it relates to how the current rule is enforced.

Close out and play the percentages of blocking a jump shot attempt. Most of the time when trying to contest a jumper the defender rarely if ever jumps straight up and down. They are trying to jump towards the side of the shooter and when you leave your feet, the shooter has the advantage.

I'm with you though, which is why I said if it's not a natural shooting motion, stop rewarding the shooter
