The Official 2020/21 NBA Thread

The brand low key losing excitement. Games are just boring to watch. They gotta do something.

TV contract about to be over in a couple years too. They gotta find something to up the leverage.

I think the last season for the current ESPN/ABC/TNT deal is the 2024-25 season. I expect them to reup since I don’t see any other network wanting the NBA or to fork over a lot more money for it, especially with ESPN and TNT taking over the nhl starting next season

A mid season tournament not gonna do it tho. I can’t see any big stars wanting to play in games that don’t mean shit. Even if they try to use playoff seeding as leverage I don’t think anyone cares. Only diehards would really care and that’s IF everyone is involved. LeBron already complained about play in games (I don’t care for em either). I can’t see him being cool with this either.

Lebron will be happy about whatever is benefiting his legacy in the moment and complain about whatever might hinder it in the moment.

The bubble play in was a great idea when it put his team at an advantage. When he found his team looking up at it this season it was terrible.

(For the record I thought the play in idea was good but it played out embarrassingly.)

The league has to figure out a way de-incentivize tanking. (After they give my Raptors a top 4 pick this year.) That's the biggest part of the problem half the teams in the league don't give a fuck year to year.

Maybe do some kind of relegation like football/soccer where teams have to play in to the league or play themselves out. (This is just a surface level thought off the top of my head. Dont stone me)

Relegation I’m with it but the owners would never go for it

I don’t think there’s truly a way to fix it. I still think the NBA has about four teams too many anyways. Of course no NBA team will ever get contracted. The talent pool is diluted as fuck. There’s no real consensus star or stars that the majority of fans get behind & or transcendent stars. There’s LeBron and Steph, that’s it. Dame could be one too if he actually had a team around him. The average Joe don’t give a fuck about KD, Harden, Westbrook & whoever else. The games play out like watching someone play 2K. The majority of people I know don’t give a fuck about the NBA until the playoffs. This past season has been the most meh one I’ve seen in a while. I hope a combination of one of these LA teams &/or the 6ers and Nets make the finals. Otherwise it’s gonna be shitty as far a ratings as we get deep into summer.

The bubble put every team on equal footing.

Have a true lottery for the top 5 picks in the draft. With every team, regardless of record, having the same odds to get one of the top 5 picks.

That would put an end to tanking.

Stephen Jackson is a goof ball...smh

Wrong thread.

Tv ratings are down in all major team sports. Imo it's bcuz of fantasy sports. The actual game doesn't matter as much as the stats anymore. Fans can go online to see the info they want. Plus with streaming apps fans can watch the exact game that interests them and not the same six teams over and over on ESPN and TNT.

The NBA has to revamp it's marketing strategy to this generation of fans. The old Tuesday through Friday on cable TV format is not enough anymore.

I think a relegation system like premier league is the answer. Add teams in Seattle, vegas, Vancouver, Kansas and make a second division where teams gotta play in to the 1st division and the worst teams get dropped down to the 2nd division.

Silver and the owners probably too pussy tho.

Coming up for a prize incentive for the front office is easy for the mid season tournament. The players incentive is what’s kinda hard.

I have proposed this a few times while not fully understanding how it works but the 5th letters of the world didn't like it.
