I understand the deal. Real, Barcelona and a lot of Italian clubs have been doing this for years. The “sell-on clause and matching rights” is the key here.
Did I want Guehi to stay and prove his worth, yeah. But the reality is he was more likely not going to get consistent playing time.
Plus with the new loan rules and also these young players getting wary of the loan system, this was the next best thing.
