How the hell were the teams themselves able to even propose this? I always thought FIFA and/or the continental football associations (UEFA in this case) had to be involved with any league implementation or changes.

Can someone educate me?

They had some sleeper cell agents like Agnelli, Perez and Woodward who are heavily involved on both sides.
 
lol maybe it’s because I follow the Eredivisie but we’ve always had this ‘Swiss’ coefficient model - 5 year span - , not so long ago the Eredivisie had 3 CL spots but because we underperformed and other leagues - read the Prem, la Liga etc - threw money at the UEFA, Leagues from smaller nations diminished and if Ajax didn’t murk Juve, Real and co a few years back than due to the current coefficient league model the Champion of the Eredivisie would still need to qualify for the CL lol.

Now we got 1 direct CL ticket and 2nd has to go to the qualifying rounds which absolutely favours the big leagues... were fighting with Turkey, Belgium, Russia and Austria for them CL tickets lmao...

The Champions League/UEFA has always favored the big leagues...

The difference between the current and future CL and the Super League is that Super League would do to the Prem, La Liga etc what the UEFA/CL and ‘big five’ leagues have been doing to the Eredivisie and other small country leagues :::

This shit is so interesting to me because of the cultural differences. Like, I'm American and just see businesses making business moves. No problem.
