People saying Tony Adams was a good captain by today's standards he wouldn't even be considered. We really need to correct the narrative that the legends were so amazing

Xhaka is not in Arsenal's squad for Wednesday's clash with Liverpool, however Emery suggested that was always going to be the case as he makes changes for the game.

Auba getting abused:

Unai Emery has told Granit Xhaka to apologise for telling his own supporters to “f*** off.”

But the Gunners manager claims it is too soon to strip Xhaka of the Arsenal captaincy, saying: “He is not ready (to say sorry) because he is feeling down.”

But more than 48 hours since his monumental strop after being hauled off in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace , Xhaka has NOT been disciplined by the club, has NOT had the armband taken away – and has NOT said sorry to the fans.

Xhaka will not be involved in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round tie at Liverpool but that decision had been taken before Sunday. Mesut Özil will travel, though, ending a run of six absences from the match-day squad and Emery said the playmaker could take the captain’s armband at Anfield.

“I’m not thinking exactly yet, but we are going to decide the first XI and [whether] he’s in the first XI,” he said. “It depends on who else plays. He could be [captain], yes.”

“We have had this morning a very good conversation, Mesut and me, and I said to him I haven’t changed my idea about him … It was a very good conversation and he’s in the group [for the Liverpool game].”

Xhaka's eagle-eyed social media followers noticed that the 27-year-old had changed the main image on his profile.

It switched from a picture of him playing for the Gunners to a snap of him in action for Switzerland.
