'Can you imagine waking up every day in Liverpool?': Napoli chief Aurelio de Laurentiis takes swipe at Reds as he talks top stars' happiness

Aurelio de Laurentiis is no stranger to Liverpool supporters, and the Napoli chief has now aimed a fresh swipe at the city ahead of the club's latest Champions Leagueencounter.

The pair sit in the same group of this season's competition, which has led De Laurentiis to comment on multiple occasions about the club in a derisory fashion.

'Can you imagine waking up every day in Liverpool?,' he said. 'You only have the house of the Beatles, Abbey Road.

'In Paris, there's loads of things to see, but the climate isn't great like in Naples.

'You'd have to be crazy not to be happy in Naples. At home, I have the best view of Rome, but I'd always swap it for that of Naples, just like my house in Los Angeles. These kids (the players) have to wake up, train and they're done for the day. We pay them to have fun.

'They also have the freedom of living in an idyllic situation.'

It's funny because a few weeks ago, Shaqiri said he's not been to Liverpool city centre and still lives in Manchester!

Xherdan Shaqiri may be Anfield's new icon, but the winger admits he has never stepped foot in Liverpool city centre... and still lives down the M62 in Manchester!

It is not unusual for Jurgen Klopp's players to live in a leafy suburb outside the city, but it may come as a surprise to Reds fans that he has not once ventured into the centre.

Speaking to Swiss newspaper Blick, he said: 'I still live in Manchester, in the same house where I lived during my time with Stoke.

'To be honest I have never yet been into the city of Liverpool, except to the team hotel with the rest of the squad.

'The players told me it is somewhat difficult to go there, as people come up to you pretty directly.

'Is it dangerous because of the Everton fans? I don't know. I think that if you behave decently then nothing will happen to you.

'But when we are at the team hotel in the city on Fridays we can hear the people outside at 11pm and midnight. I think the window-panes in England aren't as thick as the ones in Switzerland!'

The Abbey Road he's thinking of is in London.

Liverpool as a city? I can't really comment. Only been up there once. I've got no reason to go back. Britain is generally a dump.
