It's no secret that Arsenal are looking for a new midfielder in the coming months after the club decided not to offer Aaron Ramsey a new contract. With the Welshman set to depart in the summer for free, the Gunners might be tempted to cash in during the January transfer window and the Independent claims that Barcelona's Denis Suarez is top of the list.

Suarez, 24, is sick of being known as 'the second Suarez' at Camp Nou, but even sicker of not actually playing any games.

Whether that would change at the Emirates is up for debate, but the Spain international would certainly cost a lot less than some of the other options around at a reported £14m.

Those clubs are more likely to sell also it could be start of something like Salford.

If it did happen and this team was successful it would change the game

Manchester United 'struggling to agree new contracts' with David de Gea and Anthony Martial due to Alexis Sanchez's £350,000-per-week wages
  • Alexis Sanchez's wages have caused major problems for Manchester United
  • Sanchez is on a basic salary of £350,000-a-week and gets £75,000 per game
  • David de Gea and Anthony Martial are using Sanchez's wages as a guide
  • United have a host of players out of contract at the end of the season
  • However, club do have option to extend some of those deals by a further year
Both players' current contracts expire next summer but United have an option to extend their deals by a further year.

De Gea, widely regarded as one of the standout goalkeepers in world football, is currently on wages of £175,000 per week.

The Spanish shot-stopper now believes that earning £300,000 a week is not unrealistic for him.

Martial, meanwhile, currently earns £70,000 per week with United willing to double his wages, but an agreement hasn't yet been reached between both parties.

United have a host of other players out of contract next summer, with Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Ander Herrera, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Andreas Pereira all falling into that category.

Of those, United have an option to extend by a further year on Valencia, Darmian and Pereira's deals.

I'm surprised United wouldn't be open to giving De Gea top dollar; they're the richest club in the world so can afford it easily plus DDG's consistently been their best player and is the best if not easily one of the best Keepers in the world. Plus he's 27....he can easily give value for money if he keeps up his performances, with another 10 years of service.

Personally I thought United handled the Sanchez deal wrong.....should not have made him the highest paid player in the club on wages and instead should have given him a generous upfront signing on bonus...given the fact that he came for free. Now every player gonna be playing these games....United has found themselves in Arsenal territory concerning players wages and to think....everyone thought Spurs would have issues keeping hold of their players due to low wages, yet Kane signed and Alli just done so the other day.

Also I can now totally see Ramsey going to United especially if Mata's contract doesn't get renewed.

They've sorted out Smalling now, what about the rest

'It's a great feeling to know the manager and the club back me': Chris Smalling signs three-and-a-half-year deal to extend Manchester United stay until 2022 ahead of Liverpool clash
  • Chris Smalling signed a three-year extension which will last until 2022
  • The 29-year-old has made over 300 appearances for Manchester United
  • The England international is preparing to face bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday
  • Smalling has made 18 appearances under Jose Mourinho this campaign
