OUT NOW The Mandalorian & Grogu

Added to Calendar: 05-22-26

If you go into this expecting character development from Mando, you are going to be disappointed lol. I will say I was entertained for those 2 hours even if its a rinse and repeat of Mando walking into situations where he's gonna have to fight and shoot out of. The biggest surprise is how useful Grogu was. He wasn't just flipping and passing out after using the force. I liked how he tended to Mando after being poisoned by the dragon snake. Loved seeing Zeb and Endo in this. I thought the score was great throughout and the Mando theme will always go hard

I get why LucasFilm decided to make this a movie because Star Wars belongs on the big screen. They don't want people thinking this is just a Disney+ franchise. Did this film have world-altering stakes? No. I'm ok with that and this being a standalone film

My theater was kinda packed. People love Grogu, do not get it twisted with the narrative online about the character. People were laughing with his antics. It also got applause in my theater at the end

PRAISE: I went in hoping the movie would give just enough that it remained true to what it is but also provide a different vibe from the show. The two title characters carry over all of the likeable and charming vibes from the streaming series. As Rotta the Hutt, Jeremy Allen White turns in some enthusiastic voice work. Plus the character turned out to be nothing like i expected him to be. Once again Martin Scorsese turns in a memorable performance in a 2026 movie. I thought the action sequences were well placed and choregraphed. The creature and alien designs were very impressive especially one that reminded me of a mythical creature from the Conan the Barbarian comic books. I did laugh out loud a couple of times at a couple of humorous moments. Familiar and likeable characters are scattered throughout the movie. I enjoyed the score by Ludwig Göransson.

PROBLEMS : Theres a charming and connective sequence but umfortunately it goes on far too long.It started to remind me of those Disney 20 minute long one shot cartoons like the one they made for Groot. I spoke about hope for this movie at the beginning of the review and i hoped the last 30 minutes of the movie would have something beyond memorable, even a great battle sequence. But it just provides basic canned turns. I thought the movie would try to bring some alterations from what the series is to the table but in the end it felt like a filler season for the streaming series.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

The score was really dope, especially when they rolled up on that moon and first saw Rotta.

Rotta was a really good character as a swole Hutt with morals.

This movie was really fun. Action was great. Mando seemed a lot more competent as a fighter in this than the shows. He was kicking ass.

Grogu was what I expected him to be, nothing surprising with his little bit of development.

Got a little slow when Mando went down but overall really good movie.
