The Lack of Women In Hip Hop

Since the end of the 90s we've heard how it's hard for women to flourish in hip hop and that it's a male dominated field.

But I never understood it cuz I feel women are atleast 50% of the rap fan base. So why are the female consumers supporting the male rappers but not the female rappers?

Is it cuz they're not as good or is it something else? Where's the disconnect?

I aint because ain’t no good female rap music out that I necessarily like. As I am still stuck in the 90s. Don’t get me wrong Nicki had some hits I liked because the shit was catchy but that’s about it. I adore Cardi and I think she gets hella support but I don’t listen to her like that, unless it’s on the radio and I don’t even listen to the radio hardly.

What I liked about female rappers in the 90s is they collaborated and now these hoes can’t even share the spotlight. Everybody can eat. It’s already bad enough women see other women as competition more than they see women as a friend. I can’t rock with that.

For the same reason cats like EPMD, Rakim, Tribe, Paris, DJ Quik, Eiht, etc had female fans: Female rappers in the 90's could really fuckin spit and didn't have to portray themselves as a slutty ass hoe to get people to check 'em out.

Think about it: Rage, Lyte, Bahamadhia, Boss, Hurricane G, Conscious Daughters, Mia X, MC Trouble (RIP), Brat, Latifah... All had bars and didn't have to look like a hoe or talk dick suckin sex shit to get spins. They had female fans in the same way that male rappers had them; it was about your skills back then, not your gimmick.

HWA, BWP, Lil Kim, and Foxy Brown got over on their gimmick for one album each. Kim and Foxy managed to ride it a bit longer but not on the strength of their albums but on their antics outside the booth.

Good points, look at Jean Grae now for example, in the 90s I feel she would had been mad popular... But she is consider an underground rapper these days with mostly dudes supporting her...

Its a shame Lauryn Hill fell off because she really spat knowledge and was an empowering female figure, I guess because of her Fugees connection but managed to stay popular as a solo artist...

However their tone and mannerisms are different when I or another Male is talking or delegating a task to them

Was thinking about this the other day.

Go back to 90s albums and you will find a feature atleast from a random female artist who would hold there own on the track.

Now you will find 1 of 3 females who spit the same oversexualized content.

Women not being able to share the spotlight is an issue.

Are there any major labels with a female head? That would also be part of the problem, men won’t know how to market a female artist properly unless she’s talking about her pussy.

I’m sure a lot of the industry perverts also cause roadblocks for females not willing to fuck to gain favours.

Yea, idk fam. I think it's more about the female consumers. If female artists were selling a lot like the males, the labels would focus on the more. There's more females in this world than men. I wanna know why females don't fuck with female artist, but they used to in the 90s.

So far I've seen a couple women say it's the lack of good content/rappers, idk if i'm rollin with that either. Cuz chicks love dancing to ignant shit lol
