Yeah the era he was discovered

He definitely had a pocket he could've dominated

Think when Fabolous was doing the lady themed records.

Wayne is on record telling him to stick to that kinda rap when they first started dealing with each other. Of course it expanded but if there was someone who could've gotten a hype Williams directed video, it would've been him

Yeah and his better than Fab in almost every category. Drake would've been okay in the late 90s depending on where he landed. Like Nelly, Mase, etc had success
He never would’ve been a boss battle in any of the def jam games.

Even Icon.

What’s back in the day?

No way he would’ve landed a Hype Williams video.

No way he would’ve been signed in any part of the 90’s.

So what era are yall speaking on?

The era in which he was discovered?

He’s had a twenty year career.

My nigga do you not remember some of the rappers from the 90s? We had niggas like Coolio and Domino making catchy hit records. Drake could've gotten a deal lol

Once niggas start adding an “s” to the word GOAT, shit gets tricky to me.

It’s singular. It’s absolute.

I used to feel like that, but I supposed it's true that "greatest of all time" could apply to a group of people rather than just a single person.

Like instead of breaking things down into a top 5 or 10, you could just place different rappers in tiers where everyone in a given tier is about the same.

I'm neutral on Drake. He has some songs I like, but I can't even get through a whole album of his. I can understand why people think he's the best artist over the course of time he's been operating. Calling him the GOAT rapper is weird though. He allegedly doesn't write his own lyrics and spends half his time singing instead of rapping. Also, longevity and dominance in a weak era isn't that impressive. Like right now, the average rapper can't even make a Billboard list right now.

Yeah I guess you could do that.

But I can’t. I’ll just use a different word for that tier or group.

I don't care that you dislike drake I don't have the bandwidth to try and change that but the implication he doesn't write his raps is played and we know it not to be true as he's written for other rappers and artists outside of rap. I dont understand why its different for him than it is for Kanye, pusha t, Dre, etc who have all collaborated on records. Shit he was in a writing camp for interscope before he started doing his own thing. He just wrote that latto album last year. He's written multiple songs for kanye, puff, beyonce, alicia keys, bieber and others. He's one of the better writers in music period.
Only difference between drake and other rappers doing it is reference tracks and success. The majority of them especially top artists are collaborating with writers. The credits are in plain sight.

Not even mad but I gotta step on that in 2026.

If you're trying to make it a goatS conversation you just have trouble standing on shit or you know you lack the information and aren't confident in what your saying imo.

If he writes his lyrics, that's good. I don't claim to know one way or the other for sure, that's why I said allegedly. Him writing for others doesn't mean he beats the allegations of not writing some of his own material. All I know is this dude claims he wrote for Drake and it doesn't sound like he's just collaborating like artists do. He's claiming he wrote some popular songs for Drake. If you're saying he's lying, that's fine. I don't know one way or the other.

I don't feel like going through you guys' battle on here. You seem pretty definitive in your belief that Drake is the GOAT. Is that all based on sales/streaming numbers or do you have other criteria?

Who are you even talking about?

You keep talking about sports when the goat in those conversations are decided by clear metrics and weighted achievements. It can only be an objective conversation unless you're an unreasonable person.

You refuse to acknowledge the metrics for drake and weigh his achievements differently in the same breath tho. I can't do anything about you not liking him and I don't really care to tbh. The numbers are the numbers, the slaps are the slaps, the run is the run. You gotta cry about it to someone that gives af. Respectfully.

But again I guarantee you're a fan of whatever rapper you do consider to be the goat, because its never a completely objective conversation when it comes to music it's always skewed more to being a subjective one.

Nice attempt trying to move the goal posts with athletes but its lazy and you just keep proving my point.

even w/ the metrics

no objective NBA fan brings up Robert Horry in GOAT conversation even w/ 7 rings

I'm not knocking you for liking the music or being a fan

he's jus not revered like that outside of his circle of fans

Im never having a goat debate with anyone on here. Thats so pointless lol.

I was keying in on buddy being incredulous to people calling drake the goat at all and pointing out that most people who call someone the definitive goat when it comes to music especially are typically fans of said person. He said "only drake fans say that" my rebuttal is people that call jay z, nas, tupac, biggie etc the goat are mostly fans of that particular artist as well.

I was speaking purely in general but because drake was mentioned and its me responding people are taking what I say as me catching feelings.

You better pick a side
It's real in here
This is the problem, people shouldn’t have to pick a side.

I don’t know these rapper niggas in real life to be picking a side. Shit is strictly entertainment.

Drake fans are emotionally charged, and care way too much about other peoples opinions…

Like what you like and get the fuck on. Who cares what others think!

7 rings isn't a metric its an achievement and the metrics don't line up with the achievements. Thats why no one brings Robert Horry name up.

Again im not trying to have a debate about whether drake is the goat or not im simply saying most people that say "_____ is the goat rapper" are typically fans of that person. Its not a drake specific thing. We're all fans more or less. And if you're not a fan or dislike the rapper you're naturally going to downplay them.

Thats a huge circle. More than most of the other circles combined lol but let's take it off drake. Im not trying to convince yall he's the goat im trying to convince you most people that call an artist the goat are fans. Thats largely how they come to that conclusion.

Yes, Jay-Z fans will say Jay is the GOAT but there's acknowledgement Nas could be in that conversation as well

Tupac fans will say Pac is the GOAT but will acknowledge Scarface could be mentioned too

You'll be hard pressed to find someone who says Biggie is the GOAT while also acknowledging that Drake is in that convo as well

Who are you even talking about?

I'm trippin. Quentin Miller. He talks like he was in the camp and that writing for Drake's albums was a collaborative effort for a team rather than just Drake penning his own lyrics for every song.

Understood.

Some people think the GOAT debate in sports is stupid. It's doubly dumb in music though. Everything about music except for record sales or number of awards is subjective.

Thats what happened. If you don't want to believe what he says thats another conversation but he's credited for the songs he co wrote. No one was trying to hide anything. Now go through Kendricks, pusha, kanyes writing credits and explain to me whats different.

Quentin miller has reference tracks for pusha that leaked too btw. No one is gonna question his pen tho. They move the goalposts.

Exactly.
