The Criteria For A Hiphop Legend?

Jeezy is unbiasedly a legend b.

Without Jeezy and Shawty Red

Trap Music dont exist.

There is no Gucci, No Migos, no Yo Gotti, No Future…

No Zaytoven, No Southside, No Metro Boomin…

TIP may have coined the phrase or gave it a name…but Jeezy is the reason it sounds the way it does. Production, Rhyme Schemes and Subject Matter, lingo, hell even fucking ad-libs

He got two classic albums and has continuously made quality music

THATS a legend.

This is a great example of what I said right here.
Personally I dont think people who were the first ones to get a couple hits, in a genre with a lot of artists, doesnt make them a legend.
You just giving all the credit to Jeezy cuz he was the first to pop. Jeezy just happened to be the first to go somewhat mainstream in a new genre of music and was good(smart) enough to maintain it into a long respectable career. Nothing he did was legendary.

Kinda shows Shawty Red had more influence on the trap sound not Jeezy.

Gucci & Jeezy were out at the same time and both dropped hits in mid 05. I think Jeezy's just came out a lil earlier, so how is it there would be no Gucci without Jeezy? That just doesnt make sense.

Funniest part is all the people you named, were literally influenced or discovered by Gucci. If anything this makes the case Gucci is a legend not Jeezy. Gucci was the one who discovered The Migos and gave their cd to Quality control. Hell most of these newer Trap artists always say, Gucci or Lil Wayne when asked who their influence. I dont remember anyone really saying Jeezy

Gucci’s rapid musical output arose out of necessity. After an infamous beef with Jeezy got bloody when he murdered an associate of Jeezy’s in self-defense, Gucci Mane was incarcerated for six months. He became a pariah in the trap music kingdom of Atlanta. Upon his release, the doors were still closed on him. That’s when he and go-to producer Zaytoven started recording and releasing music on their own at a breakneck pace that persists to this day. How productive is Gucci Mane? While incarcerated on gun charges from 2014 to 2016, he managed to drop 24 projects. Not songs. Projects.
While Gucci was away, many of the artists that he co-signed and collaborated with rose to prominence, becoming Atlanta royalty in their own right. He gave producers Zaytoven, Mike Will Made-It, and Metro Boomin some of their first breaks; Atlanta rappers OJ Da Juiceman and Young Scooter earned hits under his umbrella; Waka Flocka, Nicki Minaj, French Montana focused their craft and vaulted into national consciousness while affiliated with him. Rich Homie Quan was first heard on Gucci’s Trap House 3 mixtape, and he also began working with Migos, Future and Young Dolph very early on in their careers. Gucci says he gave Young Thug a $25K advance before even hearing a song, merely trusting the co-sign from then-1017 Brick Squad member Peeway Longway.

If Gucci Mane had all of those artists signed to 1017 Brick Squad, we’d have to call him Suge Gotti-Dash Laflare. What’s most impressive is that it appears like he’s never co-signed artists with a capitalistic, exploitative agenda, but to simply put another person on. Several Atlanta artists have echoed Quavo’s sentiment that there was “no paperwork” upon meeting Gucci, just instant love and collaboration. Metro Boomin said “Gucci’s the kinda n — — where I could bring my homeboy through, like, ‘Yo this n — -’s dope,’ and if he thinks they’re hard, he’ll give them a deal. Gucci really would try to make other n — -s bosses.”

Pierre Thomas, known to most as P, one of the founders of Quality Control Music, the dominant Atlanta rap label of the past decade. In 2017, Thomas recalled to Rap Radar how Gucci Mane had introduced him to Migos’ music

im not quoting everything

Future – Gucci discovered Future early in his career. He had fun working with him, so they ended up collaborating on one of the most famous mixtapes just before Gucci’s major deal with Epic Records. Signed by Gucci Mane, Future’s path was clear – he was destined to become a serious force in the rap industry.

Young Thug signed a contract with 1017 Records in 2013, and Gucci quickly recognized his immense talent. Their dedicated collaboration over the next year and a half resulted in Thug’s critically acclaimed mixtape, “1017 Thug,” which earned a spot on several “best of the year” music lists.

Zaytoven’s hit-making prowess is well-documented, but few know he was once under the wing of 1017 Records. Guwop, captivated by Zaytoven’s beats, made him his right-hand man in the music world. This partnership led to numerous hits, including the iconic “Icy” from 2005, and catapulted Zaytoven onto the global stage.

Cant do nothing but respect this level of effort. And its all facts.

I was gonna spin the block and say Gucci is also a legend based on all this that you posted...although I def wouldn't have had this level of detail lol

I can definitely admit that Gucci is a co-founder of what we know as trap now.

Im still pushing back in regards to Jeezy not being a legend or having a legendary run.

From 05 - 08 he had the rap game in a chokehold b

A classic Mixtape (Trap or Die)
2 classic albums...one of which is genre defining (TM 101 and The Recession)
3 straight Platinum albums (He has four straight but TM 102 dropped in 2011)

Essential in establishing ATL as the new epicenter of hip hop culture

and we already talked about his contribution as a pioneer w/ Gucci of what we know as trap music

Qualities to being a hip hop legend are genre defining album(s), cultural impact on the masses (bonus if impact is felt years later), influence on peers and future artists, and being respected/acknowledged for your body of work (probably the most important trait).

Jadakiss comes up short in all these categories.

But y'all voted him a legend. Don't try and clarify shit now.

:hahaha:

If we remove Jada from hiphop we automatically lose "We Gon Make It" and "Benjamins".

One of the greatest battles of alltime, arguably a top 5 group, etc.

You can make a solid argument for Jada.

Different rappers are legends for different reasons, for example Kanye, Pac, 50, LL, Dre, Snoop, G Rap, Caz, Flash, Rakim, Jay, Jeezy, Q Tip and Common are all legends for different reasons... Which makes criteria for being a legend 'fluid'...

Though one criteria I would add for some MCs is being able to do multiple types of songs...

IMO Top tier MCs arnt stuck in a box and are able to be versatile and make different types of tunes... Be-it story telling tunes aswell as either, punchline, street tunes and/or conscious tunes... or even commercial and party tunes etc depending on their persona...
