So, my students are learning about Unit Rates and Comparison Pricing in Math. I’ve made up a quiz, and this is one of the questions. Let’s see who can solve it:

Mr. B’s father, the Rev, owns a barbershop (true story). He can cut 12 people in 8 hours. At that rate:

Part A - How many heads will he cut in 30 hours?

Part B - If he charges $20 per haircut, how much will he earn in those 30 hours?

See? That’s Math for real life.

I would just turned it into a fraction.

8/12 breaks down to 2/3.

So every 2 hours he can cut 3 heads.

In 30 hours that's 45 customers.

45 customers at $20 a pop is $900
