Damn. Keeping yourself occupied is a good coping mechanism, but still I'd have to take a few days to grieve. Kids shouldn't be numb to death and i hope that isn't the case woth both of them.
I think it comes from animals being seen as innocent. If you have a pet, you know you look at them in a similar way to how you look at kids. A lot of people aren't nearly as empathetic to adult humans because they've convinced themselves adult humans must deserve their hardships. In other words, dog with no home = bad break for a pet. Human with no home = made bad decisions in life.
