ABW Team Debate Rules
  • In groups of three, posters will decide their argument stance on the proposed debate topic, Yay or Nay.
  • The debate can last up to 7-rounds. However, the debate can end early if a team concedes defeat.
  • Posters will be eliminated from the team if they lose their round of the debate.
  • Posters must respond in a specified period of time, or forfeit that particular round.
  • At the beginning of the debate, posters from each team will be randomly matched against each other. After the first three rounds are completed, posters will be randomly matched again based on current availability. (1)
  • To decide which team debates first, judges will do a coin flip on behalf of the teams. Another coin flip will performed by judges after the successful completion of the first three rounds. (2)
  • Judges are the ones who decide when the rounds officially start and end, not the posters.
  • With a victory in each round, a team can be awarded up to 10 points maximum; however, points can be deducted based on quality of arguments and if certain criteria are not met.
  • At the judge's discretion, he or she can demand that the team provide further detail on a point made. A judge usually intervenes if the unanswered point can make the debate more interesting or if the debate lacks energy. The unanswered point can be answered by anyone on the team if it is his or her turn at the time.
  • Posters participating in the debate must...
    • Answer judge's request for further details on point made (Failure: -3 points for each request that goes unanswered)
  • If a spectator tries to answer the debate questions or answer any points on behalf of a debater, then he or she can be banned. Ban length will be determined by the judge.

Quick tips for success...
  • Broad topics should be avoided.
  • Don't introduce too many facts because it will give opponents more points to debate against you.
  • Don't leave any points that can be questioned because if you get eliminated, then your teammates will be responsible for answering those points at the judge's discretion.

I would but I don't really like explaining myself or citing my work

I just feel how I feel and don't care if anyone feels the same way or nah

Thanks for replying guys. To address your concerns...

The only reason I am proposing debates is to make things more interesting around here...

The problem is that we don't have enough antagonistic personalities here like Goldie, Chicity (you), gns, and Sam Crooke.

We need more of you guys, LOL. Everyone agrees too much or plays it safe.

Think about it as a normal thread, but you sometimes have to take a position that you don't necessarily agree with at times...

When there is a topic that makes sense for natural debate I will join in. I am note a person that debates just for the sake of having an opposing view to someone else. If you need a judge I can do that.
