Superman Movie Reboot - J.J. Abrams Producing; Ta-Nahesi Coates writing the script

“There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity,” said J.J. Abrams in the statement to S&A.

Coates is a superstar author whose books include We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy, The Beautiful Struggle and Between the World and Me, the latter of was adapted by HBO. In the comic book space he has worked on Captain America and Black Panther, with Disney’s Bob Iger crediting his influential run helping him decide to greenlight the groundbreaking movie starring Chadwick Boseman.

More to come.

I'm guessing it's going to be like the Joker movie where it's not part of the DCEU

I'm game
I think it'll be connected to the robert pattinson batman movie since folks said Lex Luthor is gonna make an appearance. It pretty much multiverse stuff with DC now.

Coates's initial statement suggests that his movie will be in the shared continuity of DC's film universe, colloquially known by fans as the "DC Extended Universe."

"To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor," Coates told Shadow and Act in a statement. "I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America's most iconic mythic hero."

It’s in the DCEU y’all

Yea I don't know how I feel about a multiverse. Rather they just work on what they have at the moment and get that going correctly

Lotta conflicting sources right now. I'm shocked they might cast a black Clark especially since folks were mixed on Snyder's white version.

Fucking dope that Coates is writing. I know hes a pretty well respected writer, but my only experience with his writing was his run on Black Panther which i loved.

Rumors are saying that this will be associated with Robert Pattinson's batman universe, but rumors are saying Pattinson and Reeves are butting heads pretty badly, so WB im guessing is going to be removing one of the two from the franchise for any sequels.

My hope is that this will be a "reboot" in the way that James gunn is "Rebooting" Suicide Squad. I would really love for Cavill to come back and maybe they can take Superman off planet to fight Brainiac or something. There were rumors awhile back that Cavill renewed his contract but nothing was ever confirmed.

If they arent going to let the Snyderverse live on then a reboot is necessary and this could easily be done with Flash's new film.

Im not super crazy about anything Abrams has done, but Coates writing this really really has me interested. If the team works well together this could be a pretty wild film.

I know there was a push for a black superman awhile back with Michael B Jordan pitching an idea, but Comic wise, has there ever been a black superman? I want to say there was. I know theres Steel, but I want to say there was an actual Black superman with kryptonian like powers but I dont know if he was just a alternate universe supes or if he took over the mantle from Kal El or what.

Where's the Flash movie?

When's Darkseid coming?

No sidekicks at all? No Robin? Nightwing? Aqualad? Kid Flash?

This is why DC sucks in film right now.
