In the article it basically set the blueprint for the future of all series... after three or four seasons the production costs become bigger and the actor salaries become bigger so what they're going to do is always create spin-offs, so you keep the same theme of the show and the same audience at a cheaper cost. It's good business but sucks for the fans of particular shows
