I remember the summer of 1986 when Anita Baker, Sade, Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson all had albums out at the same time and their songs were on the radio and the videos were on BET. They were all dope but for different reasons.

That was the same summer as Rin DMC's Raising Hell album and the Eric B Is President/ My Melody 12".

In fact, that was the same summer when The Bridge and South Bronx came out.

To great artist. Real artist

Anita had the better voice. Easily.

Songs/Content. Sade got that all day.

I don't see where either is a better vocalist. They both have their own unique sounds and are a bit limited outside of that. Which one sounds better is a matter of opinion really. I think I like Anita's voice better, but in general I like Sade's music better, so I'll go with Sade.

Good topic though.

Niggas is color struck, period

We seen it in Aaliyah
We seen it in Tinashe
We seen it in Jhene Aiko
We seen it in Amerie

Yes Sade sounds good and has some good music out there, but point for pound she not seeing Anita. Anita has a good that'll stop the pastor from preaching

Voice or songs?

Cuz we can go (excuse my hip hop terminology) bar for bar with content

I care about the voice when pitting to singers together personally

You know I'm right

Voice aint the end all be all

I mean you have to know how to sing and they both can.

So it comes down to songs.

This aint like Ciara vs Whitney Houston

I remember an old VHS tape of Anita Baker playing live with her jazz band watching with my uncle in the early 90s.
That high octane smooth voice gave birth to the talent of Toni Braxton

I love Sade too - she Nigerian with British citizenship like me... Love Deluxe is one hell of an album

But Anita got jazz roots and I'm a big Jazz aficionado... Not on a surface level...

Anita for me

A lot of people don't even know that they (Elektra) modeled Toni's look after Anita early in her career. Not only was/are their vocals similar, the short hairstyle, the moderate wardrobe brought on a lot of comparisons between the two eapecially b/c Toni debuted in 93 and Rhythm of Love came out in 94.

I love Sade's "sound" her voice is smooth and it blends extremely well with that jazzy band.

I ain't saying she needs her band, I'm saying I like Sade for the overall sound. I love the artists because of the band. They are one of the same to me.

The love for Anita it's from her voice.

When I think Sade I think that smooth bass line.

When I think about Anita I think about her hitting notes.
