Magoo Death – Timbaland’s rap partner Magoo has passed away at the age of 50. Rapper Magoo whose real name is Melvin Barcliff, an indie rock band from Norfolk, England was announced dead today, Sunday, the 13th of August 22023. Known for his unforgettable collaborations with the likes of Timbaland, Missy Elliott, and the late Aaliyah, Magoo’s influence on the genre is immeasurable.

Magoo’s cause of death​

The confirmation of his passing came through an emotional Instagram post shared by Digital Black from the group Playa. So far, no official news on his cause of death has been released.


Who was Magoo?​

Magoo, known by his birth name Melvin Barcliff, held a pivotal role within the hip-hop sphere. His collaborative endeavours with Timbaland, particularly as the rap duo Timbaland & Magoo, have etched an enduring mark on the industry. Their combined efforts birthed hits that not only defied artistic limits but also eternally defined an era of music enthusiasts.

The journey of Timbaland & Magoo commenced in 1989 when they united their talents in their hometown of Norfolk, Virginia. What began as a teenage friendship blossomed into a dynamic musical partnership that would significantly mould the contours of hip-hop. Their inaugural album, “Welcome to Our World,” signalled the inception of an extraordinary musical odyssey, highlighted by standout tracks such as the chart-topping “Up Jumps da Boogie.”

The duo’s creative synergy continued to flourish with subsequent albums, including “Indecent Proposal” in 2001 and “Under Construction, Part II” in 2003. The latter project, conceived as a sequel to Missy Elliott’s “Under Construction,” aptly showcased their unwavering innovation and commitment to pushing artistic boundaries.


In a momentous development, the collaboration between Blackground Records, the label that propelled Aaliyah’s career, and Empire Distribution in August 2021 rekindled Timbaland & Magoo’s discography for the world to rediscover. Their albums received a renewed lease of life on various platforms, enabling both longstanding and new fans to immerse themselves in their groundbreaking music.
