The Wire. It's the only show you will ever need. I may have watched the full series at least 10 times now and each time it feels like I notice new things. GOAT show, no comp. It may be the Kareem of TV shows due to how often it's greatness is ignored.

Any serious crime drama you like now wishes it could capture the depth of the The Wire. It's a slow burner, but it will scorch your expectations in the end.

What I love about these shows is the side characters be as interesting or more than the main character, with the exception of Penguin maybe.

Boardwalk Empire probably had the most interesting side characters of any show I’ve ever seen.

Just google Boardwalk Empire characters. I might have to run that back now.
