Rappers Who Have College Degrees

Old School Godfather
In the Masta Ace appreciation thread the question was asked; How many MCs have been dropping heat for 30 years?

Masta Ace graduated from The University of Rhode Island in 1988, before he started making records.

Other rappers I can think of that graduated college are
Kool Moe Dee,
Chuck D and Flavor Flav
Guru
J Cole
Ludacris
Ice Cube
Talib Kweli
David Banner

I think rappers with college degrees have more fruitful careers than those that don't. Because when you're in a board room with lawyers and MBAs you have to be able to articulate what you're trying to say and using slang won't work.

Even if you have a lawyer he can only help you so much. If you don't know what certain words mean your lawyer will think you're an idiot.

My point is, you don't have to have a college degree to make a hot song, or a hot album. But to have a long lasting career like Masta Ace, I think his degree helped him. If you think about it, he's one of the few MCs from The Juice Crew that still makes records. They might not go platinum but he can sell them at shows . And he can probably pack a club with 100 people anywhere in America, Europe and Japan, which means he can make a living off of Hip Hop.

Didn't we go through this dumb shit over at the other site.

I can list many more rappers who have 15+ and counting successful careers and don't a college degree.

Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) Glover graduated with a degree in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Art.

Young MC has a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Southern California.

Stat Quo has a Bachelor's in International Business & Economics from the University of Florida.

Yeah but do they make any money?

Just because you have 15+ albums and 20+ mix tapes doesn't mean you're maximizing profits.

I'd imagine some of those rappers are getting raped by their record label and living off per diem. They can't negotiate a better contract and they can't get a job doing anything else. So they travel the world doing shows living day to day.

In other words, I think a rapper with a college degree makes more than a rapper that dropped out of high school, with a few outliers.

Yeah but a lot of that is smoke and mirrors.

I'm sure you've heard of entertainers that generate millions of dollars who die broke.

2Pac was probably on that list in 1996 and he died broke.

And Suge generated hundreds of millions of dollars but from what I've heard it's all gone.

Died broke? What is considered broke? Afeni died with over 50mill....

Smoke and mirrors? You have yet to produce ANY evidence to back up your bullshit idea.
