OPINION Ranking Lil Wayne's "Carter" Series

C1
C2

C3

Haven't listened to any other carters in its entirety.
Wayne b4 Carter 1 is trash. None of them shits are classic maybe southern classics but we all know how low the bar is set for that.

I didn't/don't see the hype for C1

C2
C3
C5
C1
C3

I can see C5 leaping C3 but time will tell. By the time I got to Mo Fire I knew C2 was gonna be a classic.

I raise mo fire to the man up higher,
I lick a shot to let him know that I'm a rider
My dreads hang to let him know that I'm a lion,
Represent the jungle when the others just tryin',
I represent my mother like baby stop cryin',
I know my papa gone but guarantee to see her shinin'

Ill go track for track with u.

I've been a Wayne fan since Block Is Hot (bought this album as a kid) and a Wayne stan since 2001/02 ish when Sqad Up began, before there was a Carter. I've watched all the bandwagon fans come and go. So if anybody can go song for song with u, it's me lol.

I'm going to have to see your list again. I'm trying to get these niggas who putting C5, a week after release above C2

But let me check your ranking real quick

I think you have C5 over C3. I don't really wanna debate that one too much because there is a small possibly I could be persuaded but I'm actually running through all the career albums today

Give me a sec

What is this track for track going to prove?

I'm lost at what you really wanna 'debate' about

Ok @Goldie, u agreed with 5th

Since C3 has fewer songs than C5, I'll pick the first song

Comfortable >> We gone start this off right

Imo, I wanna see how C5 is ranked higher than C2. Thor, while I disagree with his reasoning, so far is the only person who gave a reason why he ranked it as such

But Goldie feels C5 is better than C3.

It's just jovial banter. Nobody catching feelings in here

One's a relationship song and one's a party song.

Better comparison would be Mess vs Comfortable. Sonically Comfortable is the better song. I think he's way more mature content wise on Mess tho. Plus better flows and bars with lines like "she don't believe in ghost till i get ghost" and "Got me all up in my feelings without knowing what I feel" , those are some real bars.

But I wouldn't be made at someone liking "comfortable" more.

No troll, they play tf out of comfortable before concerts in Nola. Hell, I went to zulu ball the year right after C3 released I think, and Babyface did just the hook during his set and set that bitch off

Was gonna go with Mrs. Officer, but I'ma keep that one in the cut

C3 has classic singles for the most part and C5 has 0 singles eventhough we can guess which ones will be the singles. What makes C5 better than C3 is Wayne is way more introspective and personal on C5. His content is just overall better. He even experimented with way more flows and wordplay.

Now if we're including songs from c3 that leaked and were removed then I'm rollin with C3. But if we're going by official releases, it's C5 allday.

My C3 vs C5 comparison. I'm gonna compare songs that are similar.

A milli >>> Dedicate
Comfortable >>> Mess
Intro(3peat)>>> Don't Cry
C5 outro (let it work out)>>>> Dontgetit (c3 outro)
Mona Lisa (big name rap feat) >>> Mr Carter (big name rap feat)
Uproar (club banger)>>>> Got Money (club banger)

that's 3-3 so far

What other club bangers u putting against "Open Safe" ?

Can't be broken>>> Shoot me Down
Let If Fly>>> La La

U still got "Dope New Gospel" , "Took His Time" "hittas" etc.

C5 has too many bangers.

interesting picks

i'll be back

Guess i'll put this here

i'll put the disclaimer b/c it seems like everybody is nitpicking these days, so why not me

I feel the first 2 Carters, regardless of ranking are the best 2 simply for the fact there is a cohesive theme between the two projects that arent anywhere on the 3 subsequent ones. Im talking about the Fly in/Fly out interludes.

He began the series talking about the carter projects from New jack City, and the song placements for them was flawless throughout the album. You go from room to room, floor to floor as Wayne paints the picture of what's going on in the building.

The subsequent albums were mainly just the Carter by name and not by theme/concept and should've been called something else tbh if he decided he was going a different direction

C3, crazy single heavy. No cohesion in the album whatsoever...and it sounded like a mashup of songs that didnt get leaked. I've always felt this was a glorified mixtape. I say this b/c it followed the formats of previous wayne mixtapes. It was littered with punchline raps but ultimately, the songs werent about much of anything with depth and substance. My least favorite out of the first 3 but better than 4 for sure.

I've spoken my piece about 5 in the actual thread so i wont revisit this, but maybe it might grow on me.
