Mega Millions has increased the price of a ticket from $2 to $5, effective with the April 8, 2025, drawing.234+3 This is only the second price increase in the game's 23-year history, following a 2017 increase from $1 to $2.248
Reasons for the Change: The increase is intended to improve players' odds of winning and to offer larger starting jackpots and faster-growing prizes. The average jackpot is expected to rise from $450 million to over $800 million.234+1
Additional Changes: The game is removing one Mega Ball, improving overall odds from 1 in 24 to 1 in 23. The Megaplier, previously a $1 add-on, is now included in the ticket price.234+1
Non-Jackpot Prizes: Smaller prizes have been increased, with the smallest non-jackpot prize now $10 instead of $2. Higher-tier non-jackpot prizes have also been significantly boosted.
