R. Kelly Moved To Solitary Confinement Following Prison Attack, Lawyer Says

R. Kelly has been moved into solitary confinement at the Metropolitan Correctional Center after he was beaten a disgruntled inmate, his lawyer says.

On Thursday (Aug. 27), the disgraced R&B singer’s lawyers said he was sitting on his bed inside of his jail cell when an inmate came in and started punching him. The inmate was reportedly frustrated over the lockdowns they’ve had to endure because of pro-R.Kelly protests happening outside of the correctional facility. Prison guards quickly intervened to break up the attack and Kelly was transferred to solitary confinement for his own protection, his lawyer claims.
“That’s the only place they can protect him,” his lawyer Steve Greenberg told Page Six. “I’m still very concerned because, sure, this time the guards were able to quickly stop something from happening but what happens if someone goes in his cell with a shank or something like that? Or the guards are busy doing something else? We were fortunate this time but who’s to say next time?”

This latest incident comes as R. Kelly awaits trial for sex crimes, including child pornography, racketeering, and sex trafficking, across New York, Minnesota and Chicago. His team has tried several times to get him released amid the coronavirus pandemic but all of their requests have been denied.
Federal prosecutors have also brought charges against three men — Richard Arline Jr., Donnell Russell and Michael Williams — for attempting to harass, intimidate, threaten, and bribe women who have come forward against the 53-year-old. Kelly is expected to go to trial in Brooklyn on September 29.

He'll be fine, there's people that have done worse and they're fine

think it’s more the prospect of going from having everything at your fingertips, to living in a box moving on other peoples time.

I don’t think he will be able to handle it mentally, he’ll top himself shortly after his sentencing.

I wonder if he's in solitary confinement or just protective custody. solitary confinement is usually for people that act out, get into fights and attack the C.O.s.

Protective custody just means you're on a tier with other people in protective custody.

Solitary confinement means you sit in a dark room 24 hours a day and they slide a plate of food through a small opening. In solitary you have zero communication with anybody. Zero human interaction.

Considering that R Kelly was the one who got attacked, it's more likely that the person that attacked him is in solitary confinement and he's just in protective custody.

I did 60 days in jail once and I knew somebody from the street that was in protective custody. He had his own cell by himself, but he wasn't in the dark. I had a job in the kitchen and we could give extra meals to people we knew. I saw the person I knew in PC, he was in the cell by himself. They do 23 hours in the cell and get 1 hour a day to shower or work out or whatever. Protective custody must suck being in a cell 23 hours a day, but it beats being in solitary for 24 hours a day.

I think the person who wrote the article got Protective Custody mixed up with Solitary Confinement. Because there's no reason to put a person that was attacked in Solitary.
