Netflix is keeping it all in the family for its new documentary on Quincy Jones, directed by Alan Hicks and the jazz musician’s daughter Rashida Jones. The streaming giant announced Wednesday that the doc, titled “Quincy,” will debut on Netflix Sept. 21.

“Quincy” will explore Quincy Jones’ life and career through a combination of modern day and archival footage, highlighting his musical evolution as a trumpeter, producer, conductor, composer, and arranger.

“It’s rare that somebody who has lived as much life as my dad is still interested in growing and knowing the next generation,” Rashida Jones said. “He is such a man of action and accomplishments, but we were so lucky to spend real time with him, to let him reflect on life and the larger picture. I feel honored to be able to share that with audiences all over the world.”

The film will look into the mentorship relationships Quincy Jones has formed over the years with fellow musicians and members of the entertainment industry, such as Lesley Gore, Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, and Will Smith.

In addition to his musical ventures, the footage will document Quincy Jones’ work in film and television as well, as producer of films like “The Color Purple” and composer for the TV series “Roots.”

“It’s a rare opportunity to be able to present the definitive story of someone who has for over seven decades, not just influenced, but altered the course of culture,” said Lisa Nishimura, VP of original documentaries for Netflix. “Combining his God given creative gift with a near maniacal work ethic, Quincy Jones has done just that, marshalling every expression of the arts to their full potency resulting in everything from ‘Thriller’ to The Color Purple.'”

Facts I started that shit then I was like man this long as fuck I’ll finish later
crazy thing is it could've been a hell of a lot longer, it's Quincy Jones! I think they should've done a docu-series and had hour long episodes covering different parts of his life and career. I would've love a more technical breakdown on the music, especially those MJ albums.

This shit was dope! Dude lived and is living a helluva life! So instrumental in alotta timeless art

I’m at the MJ part.....this is just incredible...seeing young Quincy jam out in the studio during the off the wall sessions....

I keep seeing this when searching netflix and just haven't been interested in watching. I guess I just don't find Quincy Jones that interesting.

U don’t love music fam

Sure do and I know how great Q Jones has been to music over the years. He's just not a person who's personal story I've been interested to know about. If it was all about the music I would probably watch it but I don't give a fuck about his women choices, kids and family life. Not my business.

Although I do find Rashida Jones to be cute as shit

I wasn't all that interested in it either, however I found myself with some time and no interest in anything else that was popping up shoo decided to watch this. I'm so glad that I did. It is more about the music than anything. Of course it spends some time on the man and his family, but that seems to be in the backdrop. The music is first and foremost, which is how he loves his life....

For the next few weeks I'll be listening to nothing but Q produced tracks...
