Black, you my mans and nem but you acting he saying fuck Christmas, let me tell you about Harriet Tubman lol

Kids are aged up to much.

I think letting them know so much good or bad stunts their creative abilities

I personally never had a problem with kids believing g in Santa or going along with it. We didn’t have a chimney so I just put it together. And kids figure it out but no need to spoil shit

man

I was bout 4/5yrs old, my sister was like 7/8yrs

& we decided to stay up to catch Santa... ended up catching moms putting presents out (she didn't see us)

we both figured out Santa wasn't real in that moment

but still pretended we believed in him for a few more yrs after that

I say that to say, kids aren't stupid & kno more than what we think they do at times

Im Catholic and went to a Catholic school and I never believed in Santa. You completely missed what I said in that this isn't about Christmas or gifts. It's about adultification of Black kids earlier than I think is needed

Reading @SeaSnake's post and your earlier response to that video he posted where ole boy says "Fuck Christmas", I came to the conclusion that you were connecting kids not believing in Christmas (really Santa) to forcing children into adulthood. My reply was based on that and to illustrate it I used other religions plus those that celebrated Kwanzaa to show that not believing in Santa doesn't equate to children being pushed into adulthood early.

And you'd only be partially correct. Yes I used it to illustrate a connection but I also specifically said that Christmas/Santa wasn't the point. So focusing on that and Santa misses the overall point because all you're gonna focus on is whether Santa being real or not is the issue when it's not. The issue itself is pushing kids into adulthood too early not whether or not Santa is or isn't real

ok so i go back to my original stance that i received his message to be more about unsubscribing from certain thoughts and subscribing to new ones.

i.e. instead of gifting your kids presents, gift them with your presence. Be involved. Be there for them because what you can offer them with knowledge will last longer than a toy

I agree with that. I think you can do that, be truthful and still let your kids just be kids. The idea that the cover of childhood needs to be ripped away in some harsh manner isn't something I agree with.

I just re-watched the video: I don't get "The idea that the cover of childhood needs to be ripped away in some harsh manner..." from it.

Maybe it's my upbringing. Watching the evening news with my pops was required growing up. I was very aware of what was going on in the world at a young age but still very much a child; just an informed one.

Yeah brother, I didn't get that at all

"Its time to break down the fantasy. Because when you can afford to feed them what you gonna do?" Thats an adult worry being placed onto a child. Children shouldn't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. And I think kids having that worry placed onto them isn't right. It's that simple. I understand it's reality. It's a reality many live. That still dont mean I'ma look at it and say its ok.

Well that would be the opposite of harsh now wouldnt it? You had someone there to not only guide you through it learning about the world. Not somebody throwing you into the deep end to take on their problems with them.

I didn't interpret that at all brother.

There are some parents who will go above their means for Christmas.

At the time of the episode, the government was still shut down and without an end date in sight. Are you (not you) still gonna be trying to spend money you don't have on presents when you need to be concerned with how you gonna feed them babies.

Now obviously, yeah, you don't need to explain that to a child, so maybe that's where the disconnect is you thinking he's telling parents to tell their kids they gonna have to pick between food and toys.

Would you consider your homeboy a loser if he didnt give his kids presents for Christmas?

Since we all know it's a fake holiday and not real, why do folks celebrate it?

Doesn't the Bible state not to celebrate pagan holidays?

Bible says other stuff too but we are focused on the pagan holiday part?

I found all the gifts in the closet lol. It was the end of an era but really just confirmed what I already believed to be true by that point anyway. I think it put me at ease more than anything else. Tempered my expectations. I was writing Santa asking for crazy shit.

Idk why you're so stuck on Christmas lol. And I get he was talking about being fiscally responsible. I just dont think part of that involves letting your kids in on that to the full degree. As they get older? Sure. When theyre still kids. Nah. That shouldn't be their worry
