Welcome To aBlackWeb

Punch of TBD: “Am I tripping or does rap sound like one long song right now??”

That's why I will forever love the 90's hip hop music.

Yeah you might have some similar sounds but, you had a lot of variety.
Digital Underground came with the humor, Tribe Called Quest came with the neo-soul vibe, Bone Thugs had that melodic horror sound, BIG had that trap story/come up vibe, Pac had that thug motivation/idgaf vibe, Wu-Tang with the kung fu/mafioso vibe, Busta had the fun but dark flow.....shit I can go on and on.

I really wouldn't know.

If he's suggesting that most mainstream rap is following a trend, that's how it's always been whether you liked the trend or not.

Nah. Trends existed, but everyone didn't come out sounding the same to the same degree as you have it now. It's probably fair to say rap has been trending towards this, but you can't say it's always been like this. Mafioso rap was a trend, but every mafioso rapper wasn't using the same cadendce, refrain style, type of beats, ad libs, etc...

Name every sub genre of rap and I can name you 5 rap acts that did it similarly.

And TDE isn't exempt by the way. The 2010s had them doing what was popular at the time.

Art influences art and even the most fashion forward minds will reflect whatever is around them to some degree.

Let's go with Mafioso rap. Name 5 acts that did it so similarly that you could have songs from two different artists that you'd mistake for being the same guy.

as head of a record label he can directly change this by releasing music that does not sound like what he is complaining about

so why not do that

lmao at saying yea main stream sound like that

No. Most rap sound like that. Don’t matter if it’s mainstream, underground or local.

oh they definitely bout to drop a "we are the world" type double album

got a song w/ Rakim and Phil Collins....couple interludes by James Earl Jones

im hearing acoustic, airy beats with fast drums....lots of switching and mixing

a 2yr old Westside Gunn hook lol

the hardest song on there Ft. Jay Rock and its 2 mins 14 seconds

I think the internet and social media has affected the similarity in sounds and styles that we hear. For example, in the 80s and 90s. It was hard to get ALOT of east coast/west coast music to a southern fan base, unless you were a full blown star with heavy radio play. Now it doesnt matter where you from, you can have a C list level rapper's music outside of his geographical location with a click of a mouse. Which increases the people that could be influenced by his style/sound
