Post lyrics that speak to you...

You don't wanna fall in love I know
I'm not someone you should trust I know
I give Chanel out like a hug I know
I knew a couple of your friends way before
How many girls have slept in this bed
Say a different number than the one that's in my head
Lying to protect you I be doing that a lot
My past checkered like the Louis you just got
Married in our twenties now, where the fun in that?
My city love me like a college running back
Pack a bag you gon' end up staying where I'm at
Took you from the hood, and I could never give you back
I just wanna let you know that someone love you back

Girl, you really got a hold on me.
So this isn't just puppy love.

Just replace girl with boy because I ain't with that gay shit.

If Marvin was alive now, wow
What would I say to him?
Where could I start?
How could I explain to him?
I know the minor world would probably look strange to him
Would he feel like today had a place for him?
Global imprisonment, sickness, indifference
When he said, 'Save the babies, ' was we listenin'?

Mos Def - Modern Marvel

That entire song was full of quotables, the story about his female friend who had a tumor still gives me chills. Joe is easily top 5

Spinoff: How can y'all listen to emotionally raw songs like that? I gotta brace myself to stomach songs with lyrics that hurt too bad. N if they hit close to home? Nahhh. iCan't.

Jon Connor - Burn Notice

Lyrics:

These fake nigga showing out for another nigga
That's that shit to make a nigga say fuck you nigga
Like you bulletproofing them bullets can't touch you nigga
I'm saying all this because I love you nigga
What do you mean you a real nigga
Like bullet wounds and your homies crying ain't real nigga?
It's Vietnam outside your front door
I'm like the army all those motherfuckers want war
So he killed your man, now gun in hand
Now you in jail, you dumb as hell
Locked up and now you ain't goin' home boy
Ain't getting pussy and your girl fucking your homeboy
You thinking, you thinking, I make a nigga here coming back
Like you invicible and you the only nigga strap
Well I say ,nigga so?, watch what they be asking me
'Cause if we keep thinking up like this
That's all we'll ever be

:whew:

How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes
I struggle to find any truth in your lies
And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know
My weakness I feel I must finally show

Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall
Lend me your eyes I can change what you see
But your soul you must keep, totally free

Awake my soul

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life

Awake my soul
For you were made to meet your maker

You were made to meet your maker

What's it all worth?
Can't take it with u under this earth
Rich men died and tried but none of it worked
They'll just rob ur grave
I'll rather be alive and paid
B4 my number's called, history's made

Ay yo I'm slippin' I'm fallin' I can't get up
Ay yo I'm slippin' I'm fallin' I can't get up
Ay yo I'm slippin' I'm fallin' I gots to get up
Get me back on my feet so I can tear shit up!

Dmx made one of the realist songs in hip hop

Baby I done forgot about it
I be sitting around and just thinking about it
You do everything you say you gon' do
Want you to know I appreciate all that shit
Even when we be arguin'
Still come before everybody
Ain't no ifs, ands or buts about it
Because what we got here wouldn't trade for nothin'
If you gotta go, be good to your man
Because I know you're good for it
I know you good for it, do what you should for it
I know your good for it
Nigga you are the good kid, and that's how it should be
I know you're good for it

i was encouraged to start this thread by @Kandy,

its pretty evident that we all listen to music, certain artists more than others, but there are times when someone says something on a track that resonates with you so much. So much so that you feel to make it a status, or your profile signature, etc...lets have discussions about certain lyrics that puts us in certain moods. I'm trying to no quote entire songs, but specific bars from songs that might relate more to you vs the entire record

with that...my first entry is...

song: Diary
Artist: Wale feat. Marsha Ambrosious
Album: Attention Deficit

Lyric:

Every problem that you ever had with another man I gotta face
Started off on thin ice
Im still here but I can't skate

Slow sink, can't breath, no remorse, dont think
Listen to your friend get another man for a minute then repeat

Video: Ya'll know how i do...its already set at the part...just press

Reflection: I dont wanna do generalizations, so i'll try to make this a personal experience, but, it seems that an overwhelming majority of our sisters are dealing with hurt and baggage from previous relationships that always seem to manifest itself in current relationships. A cycle is then created and will probably follow her for as long as she continues to stay in a place of hurt. I am not saying that there arent legitimate causes for hurt and pain, but a huge part of growing and maturing is asking your higher power "what is the lesson I was supposed to learn from this?", and move forward.

You can't stay a victim or in other words, you cant continue to let peoples decisions affect how you treat people moving forward. If you are not truly healed, then you are not ready to move forward in a relationship. I fucks with this songs for a myriad of reasons, but this particular part hits home for me b/c i've felt for a long time, damned if you do, damned if you dont, and that i was constantly being compared to the ghost of someone previously.

But this song is just so fucking dope. Idk why Wale doesnt get the attention that his peers do, but i personally love his debut album. He has a TON of quotables on there that i'm going to be posting.
