Hmmm it's a good thing you elected a president who believes in climate change
This isnt all on Newsom, this started before him.Huh? We passed a bill to for water reserves, Newsom just still hasn't done it. The politicians out here are pure trash, the worst in the country hands down.
I remeber reading a while back how much water it takes for almonds.. crazyThis isnt all on Newsom, this started before him.
For years, they been warning & trying to get the water waste under control and those giant farm corporations are the heavy hitters for water waste, not regular people. They just continue to use as much water as they want for water heavy crops, and just lawyer up if they try and change it.
All so they dont see a dip in potential profits. IDK how they thought this wouldnt affect them, but now it is. Now because of the long drought because the water over use, farmers are starting to lose fertile land.
If you doubt me look it up. Alfalfa, Almonds, Pistachios & Cotton use a lot of water, and the rich famers who grow that stuff dont give a fuck if it dries up the whole state.
Newsom has been a disaster with CA fires since he took office. He messed up with the NorCal fire years back so bad he almost got recalled. This has everything to do with Sacramento, blaming corporations is a talking point. Everytime infrastructure in this state get funded it gets diverted or just doesn't happen. Both state and local. The Fire chief literally said in his press conference that the FD hasn't been given enough and unprepared. Our fire hydrants ran out of water in areas. This isnt all on Newsom, this started before him.

It's a shitshow
Corporations haven't used up our water, where are you getting that from. Our shitty politicians didn't allocate properly.wouldnt corporations using up a buncha water have a direct impact on this?
Might not be the ENTIRE issue but it seems like it might be more than just a talking point like ur implying

According to the Public Policy Institute of California, communities only use 10% of the state’s water.
Half of all water in California is used by the environment, followed by agriculture which uses 40%. However, agriculture uses about 80% of the state’s developed water (water that is controlled and managed).
The California Department of Food and Agriculture says California grows over a third of the country’s vegetables and about three-quarters of fruits and nuts. The agribusiness of growing 400 different commodities would not be possible without irrigation.
Imagine 31 million football fields covered with a foot of water. That’s how much water the DWR says it takes to irrigate approximately 9.6 million acres.
Water & Power: A California Heist uncovers the alarming exploits of California's most notorious water barons, who profit off of the state's resource while everyday citizens, unincorporated towns, and small farmers endure debilitating water crises. The film peels back the layers of a manipulative, backroom rewrite of California's water contracts in the 1990s, and investigates today's rise of luxury crops and illicit water transfers, all in the face of record drought. As the divide between water haves and have-nots grows, we face a humbling reality: water is the new oil, and as it becomes less accessible, it is rapidly growing more valuable.
They could use drip irrigation that conserves a ton of water, but it would cost them money to install it. So they continue to just run those huge sprinklers or worse, just open the pipe and flood the fields.
Some other stuff on this.
Long read but worth it.
