Old Generation vs New Generation

i dont see how you can ever in your life pick up a basketball, and NOT know who michael jeffrey jordan is.

You may not know James Naismith is credited for creating basketball, but you know MJ

but the sad thing is, this generation of kids are more familiar with his shoes vs his talent on the court...sad
What?

Never heard a pete rock song...............

But savage is right, yall let nostalgia cloud the past.

I agree with that last statement about nostalgia.

Like going back to a old movie/show you liked in the last and realizing it actually wasn't that good.

Some things stand the test of time tgo. Like Martin is a classic I could watch now and think it's just as good as it was back then. Same with certain songs. But just being old doesn't make it great

@Lil Joshie Vert every generation thinks their music is better than the generation before them for the most part and I don’t listen to much(all of today’s hip hop music) but who is today’s x-clan or public enemy or ghetto boys or N.W.A. It does seem from the outside looking in that there is no one making hip hop that teaches you something. There is no KRS one. I get it. Strip clubs and dance clubs have to have something to play. I get that you need something to listen to loudly in your car but there should be more. I don’t listen to dancehall for that reason it is the same as hip hop. Today’s music just needs more balance. I mean Kendrick and Cole are doing it and I am sure there are others but again from the outside looking in there doesn’t seem to be a bunch of artist to balance out the shimmy shoulder having rappers. Even hustle rappers balanced out their albums with the evils of their lifestyle.

was drawing a parallel..

how do you wanna play basketball and never heard of Michael Jordan. These younger kids were born well after MJ played his last game, so the only reference they have of him are his sneakers.

both generations are defensive as hell, and be bugging,

just let niggaz do them, if u like it you like it, if you don't u don't...
there's a lotta garbage niggaz today, but there's a lotta nice niggaz too....

and old niggaz still making music.....

so niggaz needa just chill and let niggaz be great...

let them young niggaz have their shine and be great in their own light, and yall old still making music and touring niggaz, yall continue to be great in yall shit too....

I can't fault these niggas, when I was coming up I didn't give a shit about Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash and any of those other late 70's early 80's rappers. I don't like most of Tupac music so how am I going to say something when they say he's wack.

Besides kendrick and cole, there's lupe, joey badass, ab soul, russ, chance, YG, freddie gibs etc.

The only problem I can see between now and the past is that music that glorifies drug use/violence is getting way more play than conscious rap. But I think that's balanced out by there being way more avenues to listen to music than there was in the past.

i was just saying the other day school boy q and asap rocky are two of my current favorites...

good artist exist.. people just gotta sop being lazy about looking for the music,, especially when everything else is on the internet already....

new good music exists..if you not hearing it, it's cuz you'd rather complain than do something about it

the problem is, why do you have to go and dig for it to know it exists? Why doesnt it get the same push as the drug culture rap.

Trust me those that you mentioned are socially conscious but not teachers. I know it might be hard for you but listen to x-clan or public enemy. That actually taught things even poor righteous teachers and Rakim. Again I am not downing anyone’s music I just don’t think today’s Rap teaches anything uplifting about your history but again I don’t listen to it to know.

Admittedly, it's gotta be difficult to put a meaningful history lesson in a song, like how many songs PE and x-clan have about history in their whole catalog?

And what of those songs would you recommend?

I am going to have to go digging in the crates so to speak but I will get back to you.

Find that album and listen cause as intelligent as you are you sound as dumb and willfully ignorant like these young(insert wack dude #5) rappers are these days. It doesn't help that they don't have a genuine love for hip hop and only see it as a check while blatantly disrespecting those that came before. It really is like Ben Simmons, K Porzingiz, or Lonzo disrespecting Bill Russell or someone like that. You. Just. Don't. Do. It

That's not really the topic of discussion tho fam. While alot of the new shit is trash, that's really what was said. It's more about the respect of the craft and forefathers.

And saying that these era of hiphop is for the drug users oppose to it used to being about the dealers is a fact.
