Teams Have Begun To Devalue 'Pure Upside' Prospects In Draft

NBA teams have begun to shift away from pure upside players in the draft.
A player like Nassir Little fell last June despite having the tools of a typical lottery pick.
"Teams appear to be relying more on collegiate production and maturity as opposed to pure upside plays that often characterized previous drafts," writes ESPN's Mike Schmitz.
Teams are valuing lower-risk prospects with a definable role more than ever.
"The days of a Thon Maker or Georgios Papagiannis going in the lottery seem to be behind us for now."
MIKE SCHMITZ/ESPN

Biggest problem for Chicago is their defense has been terrible(specifically at the rim)....Wendall Carter has looked good on both sides of the court but Lavine and Markkanen have been complete ass on defense and havent taken that next step

Otto Porter getting load managed and has been awful when he plays

Coby White came back to down to earth after a hot start....still like his potential though

I had no idea Paschall had that kind of game. With every veteran hurt, we'll see just what these young Warriors can do.

I almost didn't watch the game because I figured it would be a blow out. But I decided to watch to see what Portland is looking like....

We'll see how he does when he goes up against a decent scouting report. Right now the warriors are a walking trap game cause they're completely unreadable. You can't really prepare for them. They gonna snatch some games. We'll know a couple months from now who's for real.

Warriors front office has been top notch for a min I knew they had unknown niggas left n right but I didn't feel as if they where just left over trash from the draft something will come out of this and eventually be a longtime w for them I ain't watching any games tho good luck to them where's that 1 warrior fan at his name was blue something fucking cornball.

Yeah now that the development league is established that potential shit is out. Yo ass better be able to play at some level. Doesn't make sense to invest in potential anymore when you can go get a nigga that didn't even get drafted to come in off the rip and give you 15ppg. The talent pool has deepened low key. No need to wait on niggas. It's about who's willing to come in your program grind and make it happen. The Siakam's, Nunn's, Van Vleet's, paschall's. >>>>>>>>

Duncan Robinson >>>> over 19 year olds that you know won’t be ready until maybe year 3 if you lucky

Ugly win last night but it was much needed and their was some encouraging takeways

Still don't feel good about PJ Tucker at all, really need to scale back his workload and/or find him some help

We are eventually gonna have an issue because James Johnson is back and DJJ is about to come back and now Duncan Robinson is decent along with butler and Winslow so we actually have too much depth

Maybe we can slide y’all James Johnson
