Officer Indicted For Murder Charges of Sonya Massey; Found Guilty

2nd degree murder*

He can receive a minimum of 4 years and a max of 20. And under state law, he’s likely eligible for programs that have him out in less than 10, even if they give him the full 20.
Yep, first time felon so he's eligible for the First Step Act, he's a white, and he's a ex cop. He'll do about 4-8yrs no matter the sentence.

  • Grayson faces a potential sentence of four to 20 years in prison, with the possibility of serving only 50% of that time due to good behavior.
  • Probation is also an option for sentencing, as second-degree murder convictions allow for non-incarceration penalties.
  • The jury did not convict Grayson of first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of 45 years to life in prison.
  • The verdict follows a seven-day trial and was reached after the jury considered charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, or not guilty.
Need to get the jury make up

The jury in the trial of Sean Grayson, charged with the murder of Sonya Massey, is composed of nine women and three men, with one Black man among the 12 jurors. The three alternates are two white men and one white woman. The jury was selected after a process that concluded on October 20, 2025, and the trial, which has drawn national attention, is now in the deliberation phase following closing arguments.

  • The jury is made up of nine women and three men, with one Black juror.
  • The three alternates are all white, consisting of two men and one woman.
  • The selection process was completed on October 20, 2025, after two days of jury selection.
  • The trial is currently in the deliberation phase, with jurors beginning their discussions on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
  • The composition of the jury, particularly the lack of Black representation beyond one man, has been a point of concern for Massey's family and supporters, who argue that representation matters in such high-profile cases.

Under state law, Grayson would most likely be eligible to get day-for-day credit for good behavior in prison, meaning he could ultimately serve only half his sentence.

but no worries y'all

Defense attorney Mark Wykoff warned that imprisonment would endanger Grayson’s medical condition, as the former sheriff’s deputy’s colon cancer has worsened and spread.

Cancer in protective custody sounds fun. Rest in Piss

Thats not enough. She got life. Hopefully he dies there.

John Milhiser, the state’s attorney for Sangamon County, asked the court to sentence Grayson to the maximum sentence of 20 years Thursday, saying, “If the max were more, we would ask for more.”

Blame Illinois law for having the lowest max sentence for 2nd degree murder. If it was NY or Cali it woulda been life
