depends on the app you're using and which platform

I can assume IOS has a feature where you can if you are using their stock messaging app

If you are using something like whatsapp, hangouts, etc... you can remove yourself from it

The 3rd party one i use for Android doesnt have this feature, but i think the stock messaging app does...i think
