One suspect is dead and 20 people have been injured after gunfire erupted in a crowd at an all-night arts and music festival in Trenton, New Jersey Sunday morning, reports CBC. 4 people, including a 13-year-old-boy are reportedly in critical condition with 16 of the 20 injured being treated for gunshot wounds, according to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri.
Shots were fired by two suspects around 2:45 AM at the Art All Night Trenton festival. One 33-year-old suspect was killed, while the other is being held in custody, according to authorities.
The Art All Night Trenton festival, which was scheduled to run until Sunday afternoon has been canceled following this morning's events.
The organizers shared a message on Facebook Sunday. "We're very shocked. We're deeply saddened. Our hearts ache and our eyes are blurry but our dedication and resolve to building a better Trenton through community, creativity and inspiration will never fade. Not tonight. Not ever," it reads. The festival has been running annually for 14 years.
Investigators are reportedly looking into a possibly related carjacking that occurred near the festival, according to CNN. The Mercer County's Prosecutors Office Homicide Takes Force is set to lead the investigation, due to their being an officer-involved shooting. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will assist local and state police in the investigation.
