So, this is the story: Here are the Raptors on Saturday night; down two at home to the Clippers with six seconds remaining in regulation; no Vince Carter again due to a leg injury;
Charles Oakley is in suspended animation for three games (costing him $215,487 in pay and an additional $15G fine) for Osterslapping LA’s Jeff McInnis at the shoot-around that afternoon; coach Lenny Wilkens is asking assistant Stan Albeck who he thinks he should sue to get out of Toronto; and guess who’s at the line with the opportunity to cement the win?

he guy with the indentation on the side of his noggin’ . . . and don’t think that dent resulted from a ring on Oakley’s finger, his hand did that damage.
So what does McInnis do? Buries the first. Takes a bow. Makes gestures toward the crowd. Talks smack to the Raptor bench, especially Carter, his former UNC teammate. Then aborts the second.
Taking advantage of their new-found life, the Raptors deadlock matters at the buzzer, thanks to a 3-pointer by Al Williams. You should have heard Carter bust McInnis’ chops in OT as his team was taking apart the Clips.
What you really want to know is, what has gotten into Oakley? A couple of years ago,
during the lockout, he Osterslapped Charles Barkley at a union meeting and warned him, “Every time I see you, I’m going to slap you.”
Then, during the preseason, he Osterslapped Tyrone Hill moments before game time. Apparently, the 76er forward and friend of Oakley’s from Cleveland, owed him 65G.
Saturday it was McInnis’ turn to get slapped so silly he acted as if he wanted to get past assistants Dennis Johnson and John Hammond to have another go with Oak.
This, of course, isn’t a joking matter. It’s bad enough when players fight in the heat of battle. The league will tolerate players putting their hands on each other before, during or after games.
To which Bob Knight says, “That’ll teach that kid McInnis to disrespectfully address Charles as, “Hey, Oakley!”
What was Oakley’s motive? You know very well, if it’s money, then a woman has to be involved. In this case,
Oakley’s woman, a girl he dates in Charlotte, McInnis’ home town.
As it turns out, McInnis also wanted to date her. She told him no, but he persisted, then had the misfortune of calling her at home when Oakley was visiting. He got on the phone, told McInnis to back off, to stop calling and got nothing but lip and threats in return.
Oak went looking for McInnis that night but couldn’t find him. Instead he circled Dec. 1 on his calendar and advised teammates as to what was going to go down. McInnis. “Hit him with a one piece, no sides.”
This isn’t funny. McInnis has sworn revenge, told teammates he plans to get even with Oakley when the Raptors are in L.A. Jan. 2 for their rematch.
The kid from Charlotte says he’s going to have some gang members “mess up” Oakley. “Gang, my [butt],” chuckles a Raptors’ teammate. “Who’s he talking about, Spanky and Alfalfa? Maybe he plans to use [pipe cleaner] Keith Closs to give Oak a colonoscopy.”
McInnis better be careful. Next time, Oak will dis-Member him.
