Nas' dedication track to Pac & BIG.

It's not a record that gets discussed a lot, but what are thoughts about it?

Some people say "Lex with TV sets, the minimum" was what started the Nas vs Jay shit, but I always felt it was this track that sparked everything.

It used to be fun, makin' records to see your response
But, now competition is none, now that you're gone
And these niggas is wrong, using your name in vain
And they claim to be New York's king? It ain't about that

How did the song age?

Yeah that was a jab at Hov in that song. But I'm not so sure that's where the beef started

Jay was shouting out Nas and or the Firm since vol.1 and sampling him from the jump.

That's why the "you a fan, a phony a fake a pussy a stan" line hits hard

"calling my crib and I ain't even give you my number"

Nas basically looked at Jay like he was Benny Blanco at that time, mid 90s before We Will Survive dropped

That's why I say this is the song that started it all. Prior to We Will Survive, they were cool. Jay was writing Foxy's shit during The Firm era.

Fast forward to 99, this dropped and the rest is history.

Yeah “ We will survive” is definitely where their beef started with me. He’s talking to Jay’s friend , Biggie, saying that. That was crazy. It started a chain reaction of obvious subliminal dissing songs between the two until “Takeover.”

As for the song itself, I thought it was a good concept. I feel this song stood the test of time especially when you have to explain the beginning of Jay/Nas beef.

They met on a promo tour while Jay was rocking hapwaiian shirts w Jaz O and Nas rocking polka dots w Akinyele

Nas gets on w Illmatic Jay tries to get in contact and collab it does nt happen …. Jay gets salty

Where u think that “calling my crib when I ain’t give u my numbers” line come from ?

Lol I gotta make a documentary or write a book about HipHop, specifically from the 90s - the present.

Cuz between rapper's fanbases and white publications, the rewriting of hiphop is getting out of hand lol

Hawaiian Sophie was in 89, Nas was like 14. Nobody was calling Nas' house but his 6th grade teacher.

So how did Jay show Nas his first tec while on tour with Large Pro?

I'm not saying the tour didn't happen, I'm saying it was years after Hawaiian Sophie. The tour was after Breaking Atoms, so it was probably 1992.
