The effort NaS and DJ Premier put into this project matches how they seem to feel about it: low energy, detached and unconcerned. There’s no urgency, no hunger, no sense that this really mattered to them. Not even worth adjusting either of their schedules.

That’s why all the overblown talk of “classic” "and "masterpiece" feels off. Not because the music is THAT bad, but because it doesn’t sound like they believe it's a classic and masterpiece. You can almost picture NaS hearing that praise and chuckling to himself, “Nah, not this one.”

Gave the album another listen on the headphones. Yeah I was bugging. With the concept/goal Nas and Preme was trying to achieve, the lyrics and beats match perfectly. Nas really kill this shit. NYSOM3, My Story/Your Story, 3rd Childhood are the weakest joints. Funny enough those were the 3 songs I was most excited about when I first seen the tracklist. 8/10.
