OPINION Men seem to make life for women worse’: single US women share the woes of dating in 2025

The problem with what you said is that it was always like that to a degree.

I know this is my answer to pretty much everything, but social media is why dating is messed up nowadays. Everyone is walking around with skewed perceptions of the opposite sex and ridiculous expectations because they've watching tons of clips of people saying stupid stuff or giving exaggerated anecdotes. Like I've had multiple encounters where a person would say something like "Men/women nowadays suck because they do <insert complaint here>" and then I'd ask if that's happened to them and they'd be like "No." So then I'd ask why they said that then, and their answer is always, "I see it all the time on social media." It is rotting people's brains and negatively impacting pretty much every aspect of human behavior at this point.

Du did have another post pointing out how social media has affected the dating world. And both of yall pointed out ket factors. People living vicariously through other people and taking on their experiences as their own. It also doesn't help that you got niggas trying to live out their rich guy fantasies and women taking dating advice that has them moving like escorts clashing.

Social media definitely amplifies a lotta character flaws. But if doesn't create them.
Even before social media men didn't like dating women who made more than them because they viewed it as intimidating.

Like why are you intimidated by the woman you are just chilling with. Everything is a competition. You should not be trying to compete with someone you just wanna hang with.

And those are the people who rarely even go on dates. Just complain to their friends and don’t have a real life

True, but those same dudes might have gotten past those hangups if they weren't listening to idiots online telling them that no woman would respect them if they didn't make more money.

like shorty on boondocks that was played by pam...

shit was funny af, but super accurate

Social media just platforms the worst shit at times for people and since algorithms are all conformation bias it just reinforces that shit. If you're a guy who thinks women are gold diggers and you're taking in that content then your algorithm will keep feeding it to you to the point you think thats all women. If you're a woman who thinks men are trash and you keep engaging with that content by reading and sharing the stuff then that's what you're gonna keep seeing.

It creates them if you consume a lot of the same stuff and had never viewed the world through whatever lens you were exposed to. Some people go down the rabbit hole and are never the same afterwards.

I've seen articles that actually moving towards pathologizing the behavior the way they do serial killers. In other words, they think the patterns are prominent enough that they can use it to find and predict violent offenders.

FB is really shitty in this regard, I can only imagine how bad it could be elsewhere.

I clicked on a video talmbout how to stay a civilian if you end up in prison. Next thing I know my reels feed is full of jail niggas talking their shit and I'm getting jail nigga videos coming across my timeline from muhfuckas I don't know. I'm still getting big beard relationship nigga videos and half naked hoe videos despite the fact that I actively avoid clicking on any of that shit.
