I use newsgroups as a safer alternative for any mainstream stuff. Back in the day, usenet was everywhere and awesome, even your ISP had their own usenet servers. They have been dropped due to the exposure of illicit and illegal content, and existing usenet providers themselves get countless DMCA takedown notices so any "mainstream" content that may have been easy to find a week, even a few days ago gets clapped on the backend. Even Playboy jumped in and had a bunch of providers drop or wipe groups that included "playboy" in the name.
I still find usenet interesting and useful, because the quality and ease of nzb search tools these days makes it pretty easy to find things even though posters have attempted to obfuscate most mainstream posts to circumvent takedowns.
The only real drawback I see is that you have to subscribe to a REAL usenet provider to take full advantage of it... oh, and there is a steep learning curve, if you're a novice. Even though you can find a NZB search site easily, you need to know which tool to use, and if you're really fancy, there are other tools you can use to do a little automation as well.
