I don't think the characters are the problem. It's their development that's the issue. Back in the day people would have call characters like Black Widow or Antman mid, but they were able to use the movies to build them up. That really hasn't been done at all here. I feel like they are going to go for an Infinity War feel with this movie, but it's going to have to do a lot more heavy lifting.

And I curious how they deviant from the same story beats of IW/EG. Cause it really seems like they’re the same movies but just swapping out Thanos for Doom.

It ain't that deep. This is the first real trailer. They are using it to try and give newer characters shine. When we get closer to December, I'm sure they feature the more prominent characters.

I also don't think we know enough to say it looks like the same movie as IW with a new villain. IW was basically Thanos' movie. I'm not sure if that's the case here for Doom. It seems like there are a lot more dynamics with the heroes that have to be worked out in this movie than was the case for IW, but I could be wrong about that.

I agree with your overall sentiment, but the bold is untrue and that's part of the reason this doesn't hit as hard as trailers for other Avengers movies.
