In 1984, Tipper Gore, wife of then senator Al Gore (who would later be Vice President under Bill Clinton) heard her daughter playing this song by Prince. It was this song that inspired her to create the PMRC which is the organization that puts the Parental Advisory stickers on records, tapes and CDs.
Here's another song that was on the list of songs that were considered "obscene".
True Story. I went to private school in 7th and 8th grade. We had TVs in every classroom so we would watch music videos before class started. One day we were watching this music video and one of the teachers walked in and started screaming at us. He said, "This is filth! You shouldn't be watching this!"
In hindsight, Darling Nikki and In My House were tame compared to the rap songs that would come out in the next few years (2 Live Crew, Too Short, NWA, ect.)
I guess these songs are the opposite of the O/P. These are songs that were considered obscene at the time but nowadays they'd just be normal songs.

There's a distinct difference though. These niggas rapped about the shit, R Kelly lived it. It's one thing to say it in a song, and quite another to go out and actually, factually fuck minors. R. Kelly actually, factually had sexual contact with underage girls, that's what sets it apart and that's why there's no hypocrisy.
