Lupe's Obsession w/ Kendrick Continues

Bruh, Lupe downplaying Kendrick's greatness is obvious hating. How much context do you need to understand what he's doing when he says "There are 100 unsigned artists better than Kendrick."

I know ya'll dudes feel the need to cape for artists you like. It's fine, but just because we don't feel the same way about your heroes doesn't mean we're being manipulated by narratives.

He’s never downplayed dudes greatness. There’s a YouTube clip of him teaching his class at MIT and analyzing/praising dude’s lyricism. Fact is, Kendrick is talented and a dope lyricist but there are doper rappers than Kendrick! Being a doper rapper ain’t the end all be all of being a better artist. We all know this. Lupe even lists all the reasons why Kendrick is a better overall artist than HIM.

Like YOU said, you haven’t been following this

that should be your signal to stfu when somebody who actually has been following it speaks on something with knowledge but nah. Niggas can’t accept that maybe they out of depth on something because they don’t have the information.

Again, bro, I don't have to have been following this to have an opinion about the shit that I'm seeing with my own eyes. And I don't have to listen to someone whose bias makes them think they are the only one who's allowed to speak on something.

FOH nigga talking about depth when the discussion about one nigga hating on another nigga. This ain't rocket science. I heard what that nigga said and I think it's hating. You ain't gotta like it but how you feel ain't going to change it.

If you ain’t following, what have you seen?

Lemme guess.

The clips where Lupe speaks on Kendrick, right.

Clips that span over the last 5-10 years, right.

You prolly ain’t checking for dudes music, right.

Not hard to see why your own eyes and ears would lead you to believe what you believe.

I think you're taking my statements to have a bigger scope than they do. I'm not claiming to know how dude really feels or what his stance has been over 5-10 years. I'm saying that the things I hear sound like hating or jealousy to me. I gave the example of him saying that there are 100 unsigned rappers better than Kendrick. To me, that's some hating/jealous ass shit. I don't say that because its Lupe saying it. I say that because I honestly believe people make comments like that when they are jealous or hating.

You can extend grace to him. You can say you've followed him and believe that examples like that are isolated and don't represent him as a whole. That's fine. You would know better than for that kinda assessment. I'm not getting that deep into it. I'm saying that these specific examples come off to me as hating/jealousy.

Let’s be honest here

The day that Lupe publicly said that obama, by nature of being the president of the US, was the biggest terrorist in the world was the moment where other similar up and coming artists took note and realized it may be best to STFU if they want the look that they really want or want to go as far as they can.

Didn’t help that he was performing with Palestinian flags and saying “free Palestine”.

it’s pretty safe to say, Lupe’s decisions and unwillingness to play ball with Atlantic kinda killed his run at the height of his popularity.

I don’t think jealousy has anything to do with the conversation. Lupe knew what could happen by being outspoken. It would be different if Kendrick reaped the benefits of being outspoken and was afforded better opportunities because of it. Then I could understand why people would say “lupe’s jealous”

I actually don't think its that deep. From what I've seen people think Lupe speaks on Kendrick way too much considering the latter doesn't say anything about him. The easiest explanations for that would be that he's hating or jealous. I don't know if it's either of those things. I wouldn't doubt it though. I do think Lupe feels he should be bigger than he is, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he believes he's a better rapper than Kendrick too. It's not crazy to think a little jealousy is at play if both of those things are true.

If he truly felt he should be bigger than Kendrick Lamar, pause, he would have never been an outspoken artist publicly and would have played the game. He openly bashed his label and their tactics and refused to make the songs they wanted him to make. That was his death sentence as a main stream artist. Atlantic flat out told him that if he didn’t make the songs they wanted, they’d put no marketing dollars behind him.

And that’s what the fuck happened.

Moving that way comes at a cost.

Kendrick is the opposite of all this

It's weird to say Kendrick is the opposite of that. He's not as outspoken as Lupe, but it's not like he's out their carrying water for the system either. He pretty much does what he wants, and he's been rewarded for it.

Being outspoken does have consequences, but let's not act like there aren't plenty of celebrities who were as or more outspoken than Lupe and still managed to be beloved by the masses. His inability to strike it big is due in part to the fact that a lot of people just don't find him to be likable. That seems to be something he and his fans just can't accept.

Dude, I know he’s an asshole and that’s a part of the reason he didn’t go as far as he could have.

But again, let’s be real.

What has Kendrick publicly said or stood for so far that would get him the type of backlash Lupe got?

I’ll help you.

The most controversial stance Kendrick ever took publicly was when Spotify was about to remove R Kelly’s catalog and he threatened to pull his music from the service if they did that.

But other than that….

I don't disagree with any of that. When you say Kendrick is the opposite, you make it sound like he's a kiss ass because that's basically the opposite of a rebel. No Kendrick isn't as outspoken as Lupe, but he hasn't shown himself to be a go along to get along type dude either. Like I said, he does what he wants. He just doesn't want to do what Lupe does. Not everyone is built for that.
