FEATURED LL Cool J says he’s the “most important rapper that ever existed”, do you agree❓

test
He has a strong case. I don’t know if I could agree with the most important, but definitely one of the most.

He also has a strong case as the GOAT

By the time Snoop came around, rap was already solidified as a genre. Was already on its way to being the #1 most popular genre and on its way to being the most dominant force in pop culture.

Rap might not have fucking existed as a mainstream genre for Snoop to even get into as a profession if it wasn’t for LL cool J. LL was the first rap superstar. The first to rap millionaire (I’m pretty sure), he was the flagship artist and helped launch the label that basically created modern, mainstream rap. He was the first rap crossover star. He was successful enough and popular enough with both men and women and the corporations in the 80s that he was able to Shepard the genre into the 90s and allow it to become what it is today.

The Snoop thing is laughable to me. Snoop is maybe the most famous rapper ever. Most IMPORTANT? Hardly. Snoop could have never exited and rap would mainly be the same as it is now. If you remove LL from the simulation, this entire shit might’ve fallen apart 30 years ago.

I think I seen a study that said rap and country fans has the lowest IQs by a long shot lololololololololol

But that was a long time ago
But we evolved and average IQ went up some points for rap fans.

The thing about James, is that there was always someone cooler that was advertised. Someone that was always more gangster. Someone that was advertised is having more money. So I think that’s why he kind of gets lost in these discussions. Plus the general public, especially white people I think like their black rappers to be gangster and not really all that smart.

LL
Will Smith
Rakim
Jay z
Snoop
2pac
Eminem
Drake
Kendrick

Can all make different arguments for why they're the most important rapper of all time
The last 3 and Will, I wouldn't put them in the same tier. Snoop himself would put himself up there but he's one of the 5 biggest personalities in the history of the genre.

Can’t blame L for saying any of this, cause in hindsight, he right.

He’s the first real superstar of Hip-Hop, and a trailblazing pioneer. And he still got bars. The last album proved that.

Most important might be a stretch, but only Pac, BIG, Rakim can dispute this.

Run DMC has more of a claim to "first hip hop superstars".

Run DMC was so big they even got spoofed by Fruity Pebbles cereal

Run DMC was the literal face of Hip Hop in the mainstream for most of the 80's.

The Run DMC logo has been copied and co-opted for decades. Plus, they were the first rappers with a shoe deal way back in '86 and it also extended to apparel. This is from a person that actually rocked the LL Cool J Troop Cooling System joints in high school.

Nah, he wasn't the first.
