Kendrick Lamar, Dave Free & ‘South Park’ Duo Matt Stone And Trey Parker To Produce Comedy Penned By Vernon Chatman For Paramount

Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar, Dave Freeand South Park co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parkerhave signed on to produce an untitled, live-action comedy for Paramount Pictures.

The film penned by Vernon Chatman will see the past and present come to a head when a young Black man who is interning as a slave reenactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his. Lamar and Free are producing for pgLang, with Stone and Parker for Park County. While production is set to kick off this spring, it seems at present that a director has not been attached.
Paramount Pictures will handle theatrical distribution, home entertainment, and television licensing rights, with the film also to stream on Paramount+.

Chatman is a four-time Emmy and Peabody award-winning writer, director, and voice actor. He created Adult Swim’s The Shivering Truth, and co-created the cult series Wonder Showzen, Xavier: Renegade Angel, Trigger Warning With Killer Mike and Doggie Fizzle Televizzle With Snoop Dogg. He has also written for The Chris Rock Show, Conan O’Brien and Louie, and has been a writer-producer on South Park for 20 seasons.

Lamar and his business partner Free established their multi-disciplinary media company pgLang in 2020. The company serves as a record label, as well as a production and publishing house. The new feature penned by Chatman is their first.

Park County principals Parker and Stone are best known for their long-running animated comedy series South Park, which returns for its 25th season this year. The duo are also responsible for such films as South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut and Team America: World Police and created the nine-time Tony-winning Broadway musical Book of Mormon with Robert Lopez.
 
If there's one thing I know, South Park goes at EVERYBODY. So I know everybody getting that work if Trey and Matt are involved. Also Family Guy did an episode like this once. I don't know though. This a touchy subject and I know this just adds fuel to the Kendrick being a part time super hero thing with being pro black I guess, but I'll give it a glance to see what they on
 
Eh, I think the thread title is a bit misleading. It’s not a slave comedy as in it’s set during slavery or anything. It’s probably more so going to be a rom-com type movie where a black man struggles with love and conscious.

The slave re-enactor part is a bit problematic though, lol. Did that have to be a plot point? Most likely not and it’s just being used as something to cause a reaction.

My thing is wtf interns as a slave.
 
He's supposed to be interning as a slave reenactor,
. And through his history learning he finds out his white girlfriend's family used to own his family
 
I mean, I gotta admit the initial moment when he puts it together that his family used to work at her granddad's plantation could have a dark comedic irony considering all scrutiny that comes with interracial relationships.


But not enough for a whole movie. I think they taking the concept way too far.... It sounds like a joke that should have been left as a joke

"You still fucking with that white girl? You gonna be mad as shit when you see your granddaddy in her family album serving niggaz finger food"

Everybody laughs.... Kendrick goes 🤔

Matt and Trey go at everybody, but that doesnt mean they SHOULD lol

Maybe it'll be like a book of mormon type thing that, which was admittedly very funny.

Actually, come to thinkof it, maybe this works better as a play, where certain nuances can be picked up better.
