This nigga drunkHe also likes to drink want mix arm n hammer with his coke
I heard
This prob gunna be super unpopular, but i think with the exception of an elite few, it only matters if you own your masters in the beginning. I think it doesnt matter much after you been famous, made hits in the past, then go pay the label a bunch of money to buy your stuff back.
Its cool that Jeezy can say he owns his masters and get some likes, but i'll willing to bet they finessed him for it and he'll never get that investment back.

I guess that would make sense, depending on how much their sold it for. Past a certain price point, would prob make sense to invest that money into something else more lucrative for the kids.Isn't it about having something for his kids.. and his grandkids etc? If anyone going forwards wants to use any of his music.. that money goes to him and his fam... Might not be a short term monetary win for him... but long term.. Makes sense
With the masters, he can re-release his music on whatever label he chooses or through whatever channel he wants. The best deal possible would be to own his masters AND his publishing though; that way he gets money off of the mechanicals as well as performance/playback.
Jeezy can release a "greatest hits" album over and over with different songs and nobody can say shit about it.
Whats the difference between Masters and Publishing?
Master recordings
Jones is right, I str8 up over looked that shit.are the record of a musical performance that can be played back, or reproduced.
You can make money off of master recordings by selling your own recordings directly to your audience (for example, make your own CDs and sell them at your shows, or use CD Baby to distribute your master recordings digitally through music stores like iTunes), or by signing a deal with a record label that will help you make your master recordings and sell them to the public
Music publishing refers to the money you make from government mandated royalties that must be paid to you when other people or companies use music that you wrote (the composition). That can refer to your record company making a copy of your music (mechanical royalties), when a radio station, website, or restaurant plays your music to help them make money (public performance royalties), or if a television show or film uses your music in their productions (sync royalties).
Whats the difference between Masters and Publishing?
Masters are the physical copies of the initial, finished recording of a given song or album.
Publishing is the ownership over the copyrights to the music an artist makes (which is typically split with a producer/musician).
Owning your masters allows you to do whatever you want with the music, release it on whatever label you want, on whatever platform you want.
Owning your publishing allows you to get paid every single time you music is played on the radio, tv, in movies, in concert, in a club, etc.
Thanks for clarifying..
damn.. as much as folks talks about owning masters... seems like publishing is where it's at.
I wonder who gets more when dealing with these streaming services... the person that owns the masters... or the person that owns the publishing rights
Taylor Swift wished she owned her masters, It's a good money generator ,she talking about rerecording her old albumsThis prob gunna be super unpopular, but i think with the exception of an elite few, it only matters if you own your masters in the beginning. The story about her and her masters is flaky. Shes claiming 100% victim but other people saying she knew before hand it was about to be sold & chose not to buy them, but wants to play victim for the media after the fact. And she a known liar, so idk who to believe.Taylor Swift wished she owned her masters, It's a good money generator ,she talking about rerecording her old albums
