As a story, yes.

Like I said, rewind is a cool concept. But the story being told is basic as fuck.

Cole took the concept and applied it to his own life; not some made up story about some imaginary shit

lol, no it’s not. Some think Cole pussy. Some think the song is mid, some thinks it cool and some is glazing. Par for the course.

He said it's this generation's "Reasonable Doubt", no?

But then again, Jay-Z isn't as gifted at telling a compelling story backwards with all kinds of bars, so I guess Cole said fuck that, Stillmatic instead
Stillmatic is the quintessential my back is against the wall so I have to deliver something great hip hop album

That’s gotta be Cole s inspiration for this project

Great point.

But Nas got up, fought back and had souls burning slowly... till this day! (Deyontay's voice)

Cole wanted blood and then... You know the rest. In the end, he placed his own back against the wall

Cole's such a bitch man, I truly love and hate him as an artist lol. Rumor's floating that he got production by Kanye West on the project, what a fucking bitch

J Cole says nothing “intellectual” in his music. Is he wise? Yes. Reflective/introspective? Yes. Clever? Yes. But that’s where it stops.

If someone thinks he’s on some faux-intellectual shit, I have to assume that person isn’t that smart to begin with

It's because he went to and raps/rapped about college. So some insecure folks assume that means he's talking down to people.

To your point, it's similar to Get Down(a song I fuck with more) just told backwards. For it's time Rewind is amazing and I think the feel of the song is better than this Cole song but the song just came out and a year for now, it will probably looked as an achievement. If the only thing is that you're coming up short to Nas, it's not that bad of a knock and I don't think the songs are that similar overall.

If this album isn't better than Stillmatic, he just needs to go ahead and retire and settle any thoughts about him being the best rapper of his generation. That can't be it.

lol the convo around this has been drastically different than anything that other guy has been shamelessly putting out
Niggas still feel robbed of a Cole v Dot back and forth(alot of old heads in rap think the former wins). In reality the only moves Cole did wrong is doing it at his festival and putting it on the project in the first place. He was right to go about his business because the beef shit was corny and not about who was the best.

I should've asked why are you comparing his song instead of judging it off it's own merit?

Those are some extremely high bars you're trying to make as a basis to say well if it's not better or on par as those then is not a good song.

There's a reason this style is song isn't made by everyone.

people don't realize how much they rob themselves of enjoyment when making those comparisons
