OUT NOW J. Cole - Might Delete Later

I really never knew this was a thing

Yeah its been a thing for a while since the album dropped. It's not about people not liking it or not being able to understand it. The latter being one thing people are growing to hate about Kendrick fans as they deem anybody who don't like his shit as not being "smart enough."

But for alot of people music is an escape. And they don't want to constantly hear songs or albums about how fucked up the world is. Everybody got different tolerance levels for that shit. Hell I know as I've gotten older my tolerance for super serious music has gone way down and I prefer shit I can just relax to more than needing to do a deep dive on lyrics deep hidden meanings. That shit is still nice to hear and i will always appreciate those topics being written about through rap...but I don't need 13 songs of that shit on a 17 song album.

Yeah but there's a difference in not liking something in a specific context and saying an album is bad.

I ain't trying to listen to Future while dwelling on racial income inequality and the inadequacies of the criminal justice system.

I listen to Future when I am with a baddie.

I listen to Future while driving through the hood.

I listen to Future at the strip club.

I listen to Future when thinking counting baggies of cocaine in my youth.

If I wanna hear some pornographic, consumerist, cinematic, nihilistic music, I am listening to Future.

Lol people saying I don't like TPAB because Kendrick Lamar makes me think about shit and I just wanna escape is some stupid shit.

Kendrick makes confrontational ass music about his experience as a Black kid in Compton and navigating the streets.

He doesn't make anything else lol.

If you don’t like something, 99% of the time is because you feel it’s bad.

So because people like to escape into La La Land, an album that became the theme for a whole movement for our people is bad ?

I actually don’t get it

Like why though?

I guess I’m just weird I like to get high and think about deep philosophical shit as well as pointless shit.

Also, I’m a music nerd and an artist myself, so maybe I just see things differently

I aspire to create something so concise that means so much to so many people and captures a moment in time.

No, I make a clear difference between when something isn't for me and if it's actually bad.

For example, Drake's Certified Lover Boy is bad. The beats are dated. His subject matter is worn out at 30 plus years old. Drake's "introspection" is really just a character device at this point.

Yeezus is a great album. The production foretold the rage music of Playboi Carti and Travis Scott. The sparseness of the album creates level a of urgency.

People that think Yeezus don't listen to a lot of music out of side of what they typically like.

People that don't like Yeezus because it just doesn't vibe with their tastes but can appreciate the craftsmanship of it and the vision of it, listens to a lot of music outside of what they like.

who is yall?

im just here for some dope back and forths. Nobody wanna hear about Lupe mural raps right now nigga

There's that and.. Lupe is also just annoying as fuck and pretentious as hell and it comes across in his raps. The nigga is nice...but he basically raps like the fake militant nigga from Don't Be A Menance To South Central

Theme for the whole movement for who? Shut the fuck up man.
No I won’t shut the fuck up

When Mike Brown was killed and and when other events happened where marches and riots happened the theme song was we gone be alright for a lot of them.

They were marching singing that song And that whole album took on a whole new life, because it was talking about everything that started getting lights put on it that was ignored.

I don’t know where you were at, but that song was constantly played out at marches and on the news and about documentaries about that time.

I'm tryna tell you, 90 percent of Hip Hop fans don't actually like music.

They just like Hip Hop and anything that deviates from what their Hip Hop sounds like, must be bad.

Lol people say the same shit about Vince Staples and Big Fish Theory...

Lol, then almost ten years later, half of the rap music out of the UK that sounds just like it.

I like to smoke and think about that shit sometimes too. That's not the issue. The issue is alot of people don't want to hear an entire album of it all at once. There needs to be balance. As much as people complain about "Black trauma porn" being pushed the shit shouldn't be hard to understand. And during a time when alot of people's lives are fucked up financially, socially, etc entertainment becomes an escape tool not a reminder of how fucked up the world is. And there's nothing wrong with wanting that
