I've Been Thinking About Trying Open Mic Comedy, But....

Where do I start? I've been thinking about writing some jokes down and performing next spring at an open mic night in Norfolk. The topics would be on politics, LGBT, religion, and mental health of course. Is there a certain way you write down a joke and create a punchline?

you take your ass to the Funny Bone, Push Comedy Theater, Cozzy's Comedy Club (i've Googled comedy clubs in Norfolk), you go with a friend so he can sneak record you and study the tapes and get better lol

Stand up seems hard to me in terms of the delivery and timing. But as far as what’s “funny” I like what one comedian said when he said funny kinda just happens to you.

Agreed.

Post up.. you'll either get some laughs or you'll get roasted which will happen in a live setting anyway. Either way youll get some needed feedback. Might as well test it out here

Suggest go sit at some comedy clubs study what they do. Good luck in it. I use to want to do stand up but was like nah I'm funny but not funny funny. I'd start going at the crowd and just start checking folks off the muscle.
