Is Saigon The Worst Rapper of All-time?

This here. There is no way you were listening to hip hop when “Warning Shots” came out and say he the worst rapper. Dude had an amazing talent, what he did not have was the right team around him. Just Blaze is a GREAT producer, but clearly not good at running a record label. Dude had Saigon and Jay Elect and fumbled both. Saigon should have signed with Rocafella. I also think he had a confusing direction. He was a street rapper w a conscious message. That kind of vision needs direction and someone that can help him sell and market that properly.
I’m sure Saigon himself fucked up himself in the process

You saying he shoulda signed to the same rocafella that was basically dying at the time?

That would have put him in an even worse predicament.

I believe what Saigon said about Ebro as being a leading factor of his downfall. Atlantic prolly didn’t want to put no money behind Sai after the prodigy incident and getting banned from HOT 97…which would explain why the album came out years after it was supposed to and why he got dropped immediately after.

Wasn’t he about to sign to gunit in 2006/7, but then he said something in an interview that 50 took as disrespect and he pulled the offer??

I don’t remember exactly but i recall some shit like this went down
G-Unit made alotta sense for him also and I remember the rumors. He was always giving 50 props in his interviews, but he had a tendency to have beefs w artists. Also not sure how his personality woulda meshed w 50. Easily coulda been another The Game situation

Rocafella was still alive when his buzz was strong. He said it himself, his manager or lawyer l messed up his Rocafella deal and he didn’t find out till years later. He coulda gotten better direction from That company as a whole instead of Just Blaze, who Jay basically had to bully into putting down the video games and making beats.

I’ll say this. I’m super bias when it comes to Saigon, I was a big fan of dude’s music. The style of music he made is my favorite genre of hip hop. Positive hip hop w a street edge to it. Lupe, Nas, Kendrick, Talib. He was headed in that direction, all the tools were there. He just didn’t have the proper infrastructure like the rest

What years we talking?

with this subject bubbling back up i couldn't see anything other than a modest ceiling for Saigon on his own. Even Joe Budden had a real hit and was disposed of... i couldn't even see Saigon pulling that off

His best shot would have been being an adjunct of something large with motion like a rocafella or a gunit

Hes a great artist but not a viable commercial product
