Is reality different than perception when searching for the truth?

I was thinking about that today, someone that I know was doing something. That to me, the way they were going about it seemed much more trouble than they had to. I was telling them, the whole dialogue they were having with the other person. Was just each one of them trying to lie better than the other instead of being truthful and going from there.
They acted like in that situation, being truthful was completely out of the question. Like it's stupid on my part to even consider it. When I believe what they are doing is stupid. That lead me to believe, in their world,....I'm stupid.
No matter how smart I believe I am, to them, I'm stupid. To me, I'm correct, but who's to say what actually is the right way to to what they are doing. We just have our way in the long run.

but i get what you are saying.....but their perception is built off the environment they put precedence on.
if you are in an environment that wont allow you to back down even when wrong....then their perception is that they are right even when wrong , so they are speaking truth even when false because the environment they are from made it true. so why wont it be true then and now? but thats not reality.
even if you think they are stupid...they may agree but their perception of admitting it would destroy what they know and who they are.
so they try to force others to agree with them....and if you dont....you now are apart of warped reality.

in reality..time is passing...but the perception is time must be passing...but without perceiving an action. its hard to prove.
hell, time travel is apparent when in a plane. time slows down for you ....but on the ground...the plane is moving slow but in the air the plane is moving fast...
so whos reality is right?

I don't like the idea that everyone has their own reality and they can just think they're right because in their reality they are. It gives people too much certainty and confidence, and we all know 'pride goeth before a fall'. There's an advantage to being open to alternative views and questions about reality which is thrown away if we just limit ourselves to our own reality

i agree....but i also think part of the problem is people dont know how to think for themselves. they allow their environment to dictate how to think. so so many people cant be wrong, right?
Thinking for ourselves is hard. It leads to mistakes. Learning requires falling, failing, slipping, and getting back up.
That said, i dont think we can ever know actual, genuine reality because our human brain and human senses are not able to really gives us everything there is to know about it. We can only know the world in a human way. There's a famous essay about this, and how life as a bat would be way different because our reality would be based on sonar senses instead of vision

deep shit as well...but that thinking for ourselves....i dont think its hard.....i think its more of how you learn and who you learn from.
some environments require you to learn to think big.....some frown on thinking outside the local, because the local is all you need.

I realized a while ago I enjoy the worship experience I currently participate in. I enjoy the family atmosphere an fellowship. And I enjoy the teachings and perspective of the preachers.
My truth is the only thing that's really important to me at the end of that day .... And as long as I am comfortable and happy with my truth

its deep because you are in control of what you believe is true regardless of outside influence. you created your truth, exist in your reality based on what makes you happy.
kinda like what i was saying to lucien. alot of people dont know how to think ..so how can they create their own truth? this is why we have sheep mentality. living someone elses reality and fighting who they are to live like someone thinks they should live.

but what if the experience they drew to build perception was flawed? even if its their reality...the foundation of what they know is based on damaged or purposely given wrong information...and thats makes the person incapable of processing on a higher plane which then makes them stagnant.

Last time I had this debate, someone refused to see the difference between what we sense and perceive, and what our minds and hearts turn that information into; basically, they did not think that perception and cognition were different, which is ridiculous. We see things, perceive them, and then our minds add information to it. If we see a bear, it's not just a bear. For a hunter it is food, for a hiker it's a threat, and for a cub bear its momma. The labels aren't part of the object, which shows us that perception is just the first part of the process of how we make sense of reality.
